Thanks for all the votes of support guys!
I really appreciate it - I'm taking the bracket off the car again tomorrow and dropping it off with my friend Simon for re-machining.
He's not free in the evenings to come and work on my car until some time next week so it gives me a nice space of time to get on with the other things that have taken a back-burner.
Finger's crossed we can solve it - I really don't want to have to sell it but my finances really cannot support much more trial and error costs with more components and associated labour!
Cheers,
Andy

Good luck mate. If that bracket is at fault hopefully you can find something a little sturdier. I understand where your coming from though, it seems to have been a bumpy road!

On consideration... I think you should just sell it...for scrap metal
No, not really. But I think you do have to do what you think's best. It's an expensive hobby and I guess you have to decide whether you love your car enough to stick with it. The fact that you keep all of us updated so often is a pretty positive sign that you do love it enough to persevere.. so good luck!

Aww Andy man, i feel for you bud. Wish i was any good with engine management, but alas i am cr@p or i could come help all weekend. May be heading to peas pottage tho so i'll keep a look out for any sierra's. It's easy to say don't sell it i know, but at the end of the day it is only a car and there's only so much you can take, especially with all your other commitments. Obviously i think ya should keep it and ya know i love it lots
but if it was choice of house + business + general well being over a car i know which one i'd choose...
Good luck mate and chin up for now

Thanks guys - I've had a really rough time with this car!
When I used to read magazine features on cars I always used to think how weird it was when the person put an ad at the end of the feature to sell the car, or seeing projects in the backs of the mags for sale unfinished. I can completely sympathise with those people now and understand why they would actually go ahead with that move - I used to think they were insane before!
I'll keep you updated on how it all goes as per...
Cheers,
Andy

that's some s**t luck you've had Andy, but you should stick at it as it owes you too much to just get rid now.
Don't rush it to try and get it at the shows, just concentrate on getting it going and take your time over it.
I know I'm echoing what everyone else has said, but you'll only regret selling it in the future...

My mate Simon came round this evening to help me figure out what's going on with my car.
One fixed bracket was put back in place, new CPS put in position on the car. We then wired in a proper automotive oscilloscope to see if we were getting any waveform out of the sensor. Turn the ignition on, fuel pump keeps priming, plug the CPS into loom (oscilloscope connects serially) and the fuel pump cuts off - all ok so far.
Turn the engine over - no spark, we check the coil again and start scratching our heads.
Simon fiddles with the ignition amp, wiggles it a bit on it's mount and tries it again with the coil lead off the distributor cap near to an earth on the car. Sparks go mad as I try turning it over so we try it again with everything connected...
the car fired up!
Nothing wrong with the wiring - a dodgy intermittent fault with the ignition amp is the fault, so new from places like Woodford Ford that's another £55 or so plus delivery, marvellous!
I'm going to see if pattern parts places sell replacement ones cheap, at least that way I can confirm whether it's the ignition amp or not, we're 99.9% sure but with this car you can never say you're 100% about anything.
Finger's crossed - need to get the exhaust manifold gasket fixed on the Cabby as well as that's shagged to buggery today as well, ho hum!
Cheers,
Andy

andyhardy : shagged to buggery
Interesting choice of words...
Glad it's finally running-ish. Which cars had the specific ignition amp you are after?

Bloody hell Andy, that's what you suspected right at the start! I'm sure all the other prodding and poking you've done in the meantime will have added to your reliability though
That's great news though, sounds like a defo. Even Mandyhardy's luck can't make this one turn out badly, surely?!

Thanks guys,
I've been to my very helpful large scale motor factors who sell pattern parts for pretty much everything (they're also registered Serck dealer's if anyone's interested in getting their own cooler made up
) - they didn't have any of the ignition amps in stock but they ordered one in for me from their main depot which will be with them tomorrow lunchtime, so hopefully I'll have my turbo running then!
I also went to Kwik-Fit to get my Escort up on the ramps to see what had gone with the car (I know the guy's that run the local one heh heh) and it's the downpipe to center section. I got Paul there to get a price for me as a guide and it's £84.50 just for the pipe itself!
So I'm on the lookout for a full stainless system for an Orion/Escort Cabriolet now (the tailpipe needs to be longer).
Cheers,
Andy

Andy.B :Ask fraser for my old Cabby system mate std apart from the back box which was stainless
Mate - that would be awesome.
Sorry I didn't get your messages on Saturday until the evening - thanks for calling us about that bracket though, but Simon managed to save the bracket I had!
I'll speak to Fraser about the exhaust,
Thanks for the nice comments guys
Will report back with my progress tomorrow

Some more progress on the FRST - at least you could call it that but it's more like a backwards step.
Picked up the new ignition amplifier module today - it's the correct one even though it's aftermarket.
I plugged it in - nothing. The car turns over, injectors fire, stinks of fuel and nothing. CPS is plugged in, just no spark.
I've replaced practically everything on the ignition side now - so it can only be the loom itself which means it's going to cost me hundreds more if not thousands to fix.
This is money I CAN'T afford on this car so I'm afraid to say it's going to be broken.
If anybody wants any parts from the car then please don't PM me now - I'll be making a list of the parts and putting them in the parts for sale section shortly.
Cheers,
One very angry and upset Andy

Andy.. you aren't braking your car.. Get your mate over again with his stuff and test it again...
Surely the SUN diagnostics machines will be able to pinpoint where the fault is ?

Well, what's left to say? You tried everything.
Will you break the whole shell or just gut the engine bay until you can find another engine you fancy putting in there?

MikeBuzz :dont break the car, would you look at selling it as is??
Short answer no
Longer answer - it's not worth much as a non-runner and worth about £6.5k in parts if sold at secondhand prices, even though the majority of them are still on delivery mileage if not less.
