Which front bumper should I get for my MK3 Fiesta??

Postby djnathand on Mon Jul 14, 2008 7:11 pm

I currently have the "Cosworth style" front bumper but it's damaged... I bought all the fibreglass bits I need to fix it but after having a proper look today I don't realisticly think it's possible or worth the agro. The bumper in it's current state looks like this:

Gonna be a near on impossible to match it up and make it look right. I'm not so sure it salvigable, what do you reckon?

Anyway... I'm not overly keen on paying out £130ish on a new one so have decided to ask peoples opinions...

Do I get another Cosworth bumper or should I go for something else? If so... What would you suggest, baring in mind I have the smooth RST style bumper that came as part of the kit? I know a lot of you are purists and will no doubt tell me to get the RST front lol!

Thanks for your help people!! Much appreciated!!

Personally think it would be more trouble than it'd be worth repairing the bumper you have, i'd also say go for an rst front bumper, possibly smooth in the recess for the stripe ? Depends on how much you can be arsed to do...

Well... I have a smoothed roof, the lines down the side of the car are smoothed in, the kit "was" smoothed in, so it's all pretty "smooth" so I guess I'd need to smooth the RST bumper to tie in with the rest of the car.

I am very tempted to go with the RST route, it was an idea of mine before I'd planned to fix the current bumper.

Thanks so far for your suggestions!

I personally dislike the front Si bumper, feel it's too rounded for a quite a square vehicle.

You really don't wanna see my car at the moment, it won't inspire you at all to think of a bumper that suits lol!

It just looks like your average fiesta, only currently beaten up. I'll upload a picture and post in a bit.

Thanks again so far people! :D

The work in progress that got beaten up...

As you can see, the lines down the side of the car are gone, the roof is smoothed, number plate recess gone (Oh how I'd love that back lol)... the car was sat still for ages, I'm currently trying to piece it all back together but deciding what's best is hard! The fron ti is the focal point and need to get it right.

Excuse the lexus rear's lol.. My standards were cracked... My mate came round and offered me his lexus's for my standards as he was getting rid of the car, so I thought... Better to have a clean looking pair of lights, surely? :P

There's loads of odd bits that need doing like colour coding the handles, new mirrors etc but I just need to get it together and on the road so I can drive it. the rest will come in time. What you can't see in the pictures is the left hand side wing is off and needs the new one put on, so that needs doing, got a few rust patches on the rear near the suspension struts that will be an MOT failure the list goes on as I'm sure you're all well aware... Got my work cut out but as they say "It'll all come out in the wash" lol!

Anyway... I don't suppose for one minute the pictures have helped anyone chose a bumper for it lol!?

well if you dont want an si one or a standard black, that only really leaves the xr/rs unless you dare go into the shady world of max power bodykits :o

Lol, you know what... I actually quite like the look of some of the "Max Power" kits but none really suit the Fiesta.

I like the RS/XR bumpers but it's what everyone's got. I've come across this which I quite like, it looks a lot like the RS/XR bumper but slightly different and more aggressive I guess...

thats fairly similar to the front splitter the zetec-s can have, like a first generation one.

how much it cost to have them retrimmed? did you have all your interior trimmed aswell?

My mates Mum did them, only the Recaro's are trimmed at the minute... Looking to get the rear bench sorted once I have the car on the road and painted. They're only trimmed in vinyl but they do look nice, got a few scuffs now... If I can get a price cheap enough I'll get them done again.

Interior isn't trimmed, my mate had a bodge job go at trimming the door cards which failed lol... I'm gonna give it an attempt, maybe with some MK4/5 door cards. When I got the car the dash had bits painted red and white which was peeling off in places but I've bought the bits to do again, some say it looks tacky to have a pained dash but I'm still tempted.

Since the original post I've bought an XR2i bumper and have been smoothing in a VR6 splitter... Is being a right pain, I've not much clue what I should be doing lol!

Gonna end up wishing I'd just bought the white bumper above.

Here's a quick picture of them mate...

if you paint the dash it be good to colour code everything but thens theres a limit to how much you paint lol and what colour. ive thought about retrimming the door cards and rear bench, it cant be that hard. my nans a dab hand at the old sewing machine malarki lol
