VR6 splitter
Hey guys, done a search but cant find what i need.
Can you fit the VR6 spliter without cutting the rs bumper ends off?
Also how easy is the rubber splitter to take off?
What is the best method to fix the 2 parts together once cut?
cheers
Matt

Re: VR6 splitter
you dont need to cut the rs bumper or take off the original stone protector.
the rubber splitter comes off by just tucking at it!
the method i used was two small holes on the lower lip where they join, and a small zip tie has held up for over a year and you carnt see it when the bumper is fitted!

Re: VR6 splitter
So if you dont take the rubber splitter off or cut the bumper, how do you attach it?

Re: VR6 splitter
ive just fitted one of these,
there is a guide how to fit it on the forum some where, because apart from cutting it shorter in length ways you allso have to cut 2 v shaped cuttings in to each bend and also you have to take off quite a few"teeth" from off the side bits
with the removal of the old rubber stone gaurd....... you will first have to reach under at each end of the stone gaurd, there will be 2 metal clips holdin like a shark fin of plastic keeping the rubber in place, remove the 2 clips, and then from one end to the other, pull the gaurd with one hand towards the engie of the car, with the other palm of your hand, waking and tapping the splitter of its littl ledge its perched on,.,. with abit of force, and maybe a quick head but in to the bonnet, and youll have the gaurd off.....
next thing is cutting to size,
as you have already got the vr6 splitters in 2 peices, when u lign it up, you will see just how many "teeth" you will see what i mean as teeth.,.. you will have to cut off, to make the splitter uniform with the side of the bumper, where the bumper ends are,, once you have cut the teeth off so you can fit it nicely without it fouling, you then need to get on ur back with ur head under the bumper,
you will see in the centre of the bumeper, right smak in the middle, there is a very tiny but raised " ^ " that is the centre of the bumper. so line the splitter up with that triangle, and get at it with the stanley or hack saw or what ever you got to cut thit with
do the same with the ohter half of the vr6 splitter, and you should be half way there,
now on to actually fitting it to the car,i went and had a look in the garage and found some nice small little electrical nuts and bolts that did the job fine, all i did was lined one half of the splitter, up, marked where the teeth are... drilled a nice small 3mm hole in the splitter, teeth thing,. and stuck my bolt upwords so i can see where the bolt will go on the bumper, drilled the hole and bolted on, i did this on each tooth as i worked around, untill i got to the side, and wacked 2 more bolts on that litlle 5mm lip on each side so the edges where nice and tightly mounted,
stood back and marveled at my 2 hours work, and got the feeling back in to my legs and knees,
now as for holding the split down the middle of the splitter, i made 2 beackets up out of abit of alloy sheet and screwed them together, with the brakets behind so you can only see 4 little heads on the visuall side,
i would also advise getting the car up in the air some how, as doing it on the floor with a lowered fes, like allways is a ball ache.....
im sure there are millions of other ways of fitting it, the only reason i used bolts is because i dont want it being ripped off
and after a quick test drive over some henche speed bumps around brighton, it hadent touched a single one, and thats with the car lowered 60mm,,,,, makes a big difference compared to the mcr splitter
