The Recaro Fiesta - the rebuild begins
Yes, same force required at the road wheels with a smaller displacement at the steering wheel. It's like using a shorter spanner yergetme?
If your coilovers feel too harsh, buy softer springs for them - the beauty of coilovers! The damping may also be cranked too hard.

I think my coilovers have softer springs on either the front or the rear. Adrian gave me a spare set of coilover springs which are a different colour. Not too sure how they are set at the moment but its really low and solid

Thanks everyone
chris - I'm over the moon that it now runs fine, need to get the fuel pressure set to standard and i know now its not over fueling as the spark plugs are not going black no more.
Aw3k - i am hoping i can get it ready and roadworthy by next month, moneys tight. Tomorrow i got some help renewing the crank seal that's leaking all over the clutch and flywheel. The ford gasket kit for the cvh bottom end was £39
List of what needs doing before fitp:
Fix oil leak - gearbox off etc
Re-spray - front + rear bumpers
Weld new slam panel on and spray white to match. Id tags need swapping too.
Respray bonnet or purchase one that doesn't have a dent in it.
Re-fit green side strips and bumper inserts.
Mot - tax
Sort a few electrical problems
Finish refitting interior - seat belts, trim.
Give it a good clean, polish, wax
Being realistic though i doubt i will get all that done by then

Monday morning i got to work with festa1 to renew the leaky crankseal. The gearbox needed to come off so we got to work to strip it down. Engine crane was needed to support the engine while taking off the gearbox.
Gear box off , nuts and bolts everywhere.
Gear box covered in engine oil
Sump off, flywheel off , clutch off, crank housing removed.
One very clean sump. It was full of petrol where it had been flooded so many times
Crank housing re-fitted with new ford gasket and new oil seal.
Flywheel re-fitted with thread lock
One newish Luk clutch , re-aligned and fitted.
Once gearbox was fitted it was filled with gearbox oil. Note my lazy aproach to filling it.
Adam loves getting his hands dirty
- excellent job refitting that downpipe.
The finished article.
Few pictures afterwards
That is all

It's a bloody good job the sump came off if you saw THAT much oil in it! Could've saved you huge expenses!
Couple of points...I hope you put a bolt back in the alternator arm there, and secondly, that exhaust clamp either needs the threads cutting properly to length, or swivelling up. It could well cause ground clearance issues. Glad it's all back together in good time!

Was supposed to have the new slam panel welded on today but i my welder wasn't answering his phone all day and didn't fancy driving round watford looking for his new garage with no tax and no mot.
Mot is Wednesday and i just need a bonnet catch on to pass the Mot

Yes - alternator has the bolt.
exhaust clamp does scrape , but the center section needs a center mount as it is vibrating against the petrol tank i think. Annoying rattle when driving. I just want to put mongoose full system on and get rid of the magnex.

Exhaust on fuel tank is one of the combinations that's best steered clear of!! "Annoying rattle" isn't really the worst of your worries in that respect.

pimsle, dont worry its jut not sitting properly and only knocks every now and then.
and the section that runs from the downpipe hasnt got a hanging bar so it cant be hung from the car at the moment and is hence hanging rather low.
also if you spot.....the alternator isnt even hooked up in that picture

more progress today
Got to work and started spraying the new slam panel which has to be welded on soon. Started by rubbing it down with 400 and then wiped it with meths to de-grease it.
Next i primed it with grey primer to cover the black then white primer to cover the grey. I know how bad the halfords diamond white is so i gave vauxhall arctic white and nissan glacia white a chance to see if i get a match.
Looks a lot better than diamond white, will give it a few more coats once its been welded to the car.
Boost gauge fitted
Bonnet got a new lease of life, t cut , wax , polish and lots of buffing. Feels like glass now.
Looks like a front end again, More cleaning took place around headlight mounts.
That is all - Mot tomorrow - need to temporarily fit bonnet pins to pass mot

Ghost :There is news......
Their certainly is my friend
It flew through the Mot - just a advisory of a oil leak around sump and oil filter. Also he mentioned the recaro sun strip is now illegal and that he didn't spot it
Got tax half hour later so now its all road legal. £180 for the year - ouch
It drives really well - turbo makes a massive whooshing noise and scared a few people when changing gears. On the way to watford the blue fan connector melted so i needed to bridge the connection and make it stay on permanently to get temperature back down.
Few little bits to do,
Weld slam pannel on
Sort the leaky sump
Wire up the rear number plate light in bumper
Connect the rear washer hose to tailgate
tracking
FRST decal on tailgate with ford badge
Slam panel was sprayed simply to make it easier to respray once it on the car. other wise the underneath would still be black when on the car. Hope thats ok with everyone
I used bonnet pins on my red xr2i bonnet - no way was i going to drill my Rs one
