The Recaro Fiesta - the rebuild begins
I'll get you the part no for the Hanger tonight mate, no probs
I just succesfully done the same with a spare set. leave it on a towel on the radiator for a bit after a while it becomes dead flimsy
then lay it on a flat surface (I just used the windowsill above the rad) place a few heavy books evenly along it & see how you go. Just trial & error really you cant do any damage
but please remove the tacky stuff off the back 1st or you'll regret it

One of the door strips has 2 lumpy bits . Not sure if they will bend back.![]()

Looks good mate, nice progress been made!
I think if u heat up the side strips and then just leave them on a level floor with weight even placed over them im sure they will come up fine!

get them warm, say with a hot air gun, and then put them on a flat surface with something heavy ontop, sorted my set ut nicely

Damn there's no specific part no for the bracket
Best bet is to ring them up & ask for the LOOSE MOUNTING BRACKET for an XFF24 complete system they should be able to find it that way

Engine is now complete - not running as of yet due to wiring problems. When i turn off alarm and disable immobiliser the fuel pump doesn't prime... ??
I got someone coming round on Monday to hopefully perform a miracle on the loom. in the mean time i will remove the dash to see what lurks behind which will make it easier to find the problem.
Anyway pics of the fresh turbo engine bay .......
Hows it looking now ?

How old are you???? i was insured ona turbo when i was 17, 11 years ago but i'm sure if you pass at 17 get 3 years + no claims behind you the premium wouldn't be too bad.
Clark you have done an excellent job on the car and very neat and tidy too, i had visions of you just throwing everything straight at it and off you went but you really have sorted it the correct way, hats off

Thank you for all your replies
Adam , i have decided to call in rhino to get this car working asap and then straight off to the mot station. The sooner i get out of the garage the better i think. I feel like its just in your way now.
Joycey - im 23 this year and im only paying £550 a year on a xr2i so i cant see the Rs being much more than that but this time round im going to get a agreed valuation.
H196jne - Thanks alot matey - im trying my best to do it all the proper way but also to get it done asap - this was meant to be finished end of january

Well done! Really well done!
You've come a long way young jedi I think it's fair to say. From your nearly chavvy first car, to a very nice and clean XR2i, to this! which you've so far restored excellently!

Looking goooooood! I do believe we've found someone who puts hose clips on straight!
:D:D
Now for the typical "me" comments (that means the critical comments that will hopefully help, but always sound negative
)
1. WTF is that zip tie for on the turbo inlet hose?
2. WTF is there a small battery in that tray? Get a big one to cover the rust, or the slightly more brainy idea would be to sort the tray out and spray it back to white
I hope these comments and empathetic wording has made you look kindly upon me
Good work young sir!!

Sphinx - Thanks yoda, i was hoping people would of forgotten about that 1.1 with the yellow and red bumpers
H196jne - time is a thing i don't have at the moment - Also i keep discovering more and more things which need to be sorted ....
Scarlet.pimp.mobile - thanks mate - hope it does get sorted - and yes when it does get going i will do a heeman and post loads of test pilot vids
Ghost - i think my working shift + your working shift + your Mrs is like mixing water and oil ....
I may ask Charles for a price to replace the whole slam panel so i can fit the bonnet catch. i don't trust welding just the tabs back on - too many horror pics of bonnets hitting the windscreen.
heeman - Yes hose clips go on straight as I'm a perfectionist. The cable tie on turbo inlet hose is keeping the amal valve pipes from touching the pulley for now as i have now discovered i need to remove the air-box to refit the cover
As for the battery tray ... small battery came with the car and has the ford cover on it for now - i may put the xr2i battery in there as it is a large diesel one.
The tray itself has about 3mm of anti rust compound all over it - kinda like under seal stuff but orange ?
i fear that if i scrap it all off i may find more surprises.

I’ve just realised how much significance this car has! (before anyone says anything, yes I know it was Ades car) but am I right in thinking that this forum wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for this RST?

This is the on-going thing I'm saying to myself - do i keep the Rs with the Recaro fiesta identity or style it somehow to keep it known as the car it used to be ?
At least it went to someone who isn't going to inflict it with bad-boy bonnets, m3 mirrors, neons and flushed tailgates

I say you style it yourself BUT....
Whatever you plan on doing, run it by all of us first and we can say what can and can't be done
