h196jne :
jayrs :oh look, the prototype was red, that means white was done as a lower colour for the rs, the frst was designed to be red, turbo boy :P owned, dont even waste time thinking of a come back

It wasn't jay because the car in the picture above was the original on a F plate and that,,,,,,, wait for it......... was WHITE

Proper test car in motorsport diamond white :bonkers:
No that isn't a fiseta rs turbo that's a 1.6s with a frst engine in it (sv504 prototype)there were 3. The first frst was (G413 XNO) RED (prototype sv510)

T3 or not T3

Postby knuckles on Sat Sep 15, 2007 2:17 am

Update - kinda

Well no pics unfortunatly as i still havent got a straight of green strips yet....

Main consern for me now is the Turbo drinking my oil. The oil just comes out the exhuast in a white cloud of smoke when i start up and also when i drive over 85mph....

So i now have to deside [ERRR] turbo to take its place, a reconed or new T2 is going to cost more than a new T3. But T3 needs a few bits changing to go on.

new stainless downpipe required
oil return swap over
Escort exhaust manifold
different oil feed from back of block
boost pipes changing using std intercooler
Do i leave water cooling on or remove it for better engine temps ???
Will it need to be setup again on rolling road for fueling /boost ?

Let me know your thoughts on the matter and give me the good points and the bad points of going for the bigger turbo.
I wont be going front mount cooler as i am not changing the appearance of the Rs.

Yeah do it :Q :Q

I was lucky, Chris did all mine before I bought it,

He or somebody thats done the conversion will tell you how easy/difficult it is to do.

All I know is you blank off the water cooling as it make the engine temps higher if you don't.

Just make sure its ready to give those pesky "Reds" a spanking :bonkers: :bonkers:

Cheers :aviator:

T2's can be got for a fair price, you just need to shop around, places like turbo technics etc are a rip of,
T2's can be got for same price of T3's, but you got to ask your self what you wanna do, and you being as tight as you are with petrol etc i would advise against a T3 conversion

Deffo good move clark, done it to both my old ones, really easy conversion

new stainless downpipe required - i used powerflow for JNE cost £40.00
oil return swap over - http://www.fordpartsuk.com cost under £10.00 posted (not availible from ford)
Escort exhaust manifold - £10.00 off ebay
different oil feed from back of block - £20.00 off ebay
boost pipes changing using std intercooler - roose do the kits for T3 mate and they should sell you that seperate so it will match what you already got.
Do i leave water cooling on or remove it for better engine temps ??? - block it off and keep the engine temps down, but you will have to run up and down correctly for around 3-4 mins
Will it need to be setup again on rolling road for fueling /boost ? - Best getting it setup

Few tips, heat wrap the downpipe, try and get a heat sheild for the alternator off an escort also maybe some sort of heat sheild for the starter as it will cook both these items, shaun is having to change a alternator that i bought brand new just over 12 months ago.

id have to say go T3 as well. i wasnt convinced for quite a while until a mate done it to his own FRST. he kept badgering me to do mine and this was within a year of spending out over 750 quid for a recon T2 so i wasnt in a hurry to do it  :aaah: anyway, a used standard T3 and fannymould came up for for 80 quid so went for that. also bought a new ford oil feed pipe at around 40 quid and a oil return elbow for around 25-30 quid again new from ford. got a ERST down pipe from a local motor factor for about 25 quid new! welded this to a mongoose T2 down pipe leaving the flexi in and the downpipe fitted snuggly inside the other to make a real neat job! :D at first after the swap you kinda feel a bit disapointed, but after a few days of running around with it you all of a sudden "get it" its the only way i can describe it  dont get me wrong, the T2 can make the car feel really point and squert but the T3 makes it feel faster. dont know if that makes sense and if other converted owners get what im rattling on about  if you do T£ it, make sure you get a turbo with a .36 exhaust housing (from a standard ERST) .48 is too big and will be far to laggy :)

Another ebay steal ! :D
Picked it up yesterday. Came off a escort cabriolet, was only removed to change back to a series 1 turbo. Apparently was running 180bhp at 18psi.
I dont know much about these turbo's so if anyone spots any markings etc let me know what type it is.

T3 here i come !

The cleaning process began today. Simply used a wire brush drill bit and some T-cut metal polish
Didnt spend much time on the manifold. Still got more to do, plan to wrap the manifold with heat wrap and replace the rusted water pipes.

Clark please don't put it in the bay without painting the turbo and manifold with black heat paint, or it will look :(

Great buy though, i would say if it was running 18psi then i would hope it was at least a stage one as it would have strained the knackers of a standard unit at those figures.

The Ebay add did say it was a stage 1 and the guy said the car was kept off the road for over 4 years. He only sold it to go back to a series 1 turbo :)

I will be painting the turbo in high temp black and heat wrap the manifold.
