That electrofied album. 6/10
Loathe as I am to buy any compilation album advertised in the mainstream media, I decided to nip out and buy this volume providing a cross-section of the latest electro genre to hit popular awareness.
I think it's actually quite good, it stands listening to a few times at least; although I couldn't sit and listen *to* it, it makes a great soundtrack to whatever I'm doing. Trackwise I think the only weak points are a couple of dubious remixes of songs from other genres. In general it keeps an even pace.
The tracks are foreshortened a bit much as you'd expect from any major compilation album; there are no thoughtful and progressively layered versions of tracks, such an effect being difficult to achieve within a 3-5 minute playtime. The mixing between tracks is a little harsh at times too, quite possibly a further consequence of the need to fit in 20 tracks per cd which perhaps isn't STRICTLY necessary.
But on the whole I'd rate it 6 out of 10 for being listenable. I'd recommend you buy it if you need some new background music. It won't make a top 10 fave albums list for me or any of you, however. I suspect it'll be the fave album for the next few weeks of any faceparty slapper trying to out-contemporarise her associates.
