smoothing bumpers

whats the best way to go about smoothing out the grain of my mk3 bumpers?
i want to keep the standard shape just not the texture of it
oh and will body filler sort out the ridge in the front edge of the bonnet :-?
any help, thanx

Sand the bumper down and spray over it.

And yea body filler will do it.

Nope, just simple sand down make it smooth, spray and lacquer should be fine.

Do standard mk3 bumpers have a grain to them then? I've never realised they did to be honest lol.

they should have the same finish as your bodywork, theres no grain to it lol its not wood

unless its the recess around the front and rear bumper they on about? like where the green strip is on the turbo?

the "grain" it like tiny bumps. bumper feels rough to touch not smooth
i recon a sand and paint will do tho

yeah, its not meant to feel like that. its meant to be smooth, just like the car. probably was resprayed at some stage and not a very good job was done on it

If he has standard bumpers then yes. They should feel like that.

They aren't painted and are made from textured plastic.

Sand them and painting them will be fine. Can also use filler on the recess fine too.

The standard bumpers on my 1.3 was painted. Maybe it depends what year or model it is?

must do i seen a few mk3 with same colour bumpers

thanks for all the help, by the way, will white spirit take the stikcy gubbins off where i took off the rear badges?

White spirit would probably do it, but i would use autoglym super resin polish, its what i used on some cars and motorbikes before and it works a treat, and leaves a nice shine too :)

Thats what i thought.


No, the majority of standard Fiesta's had black plastic bumpers with the texture. Only the colour coded bumpers have the same effect.

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH i understand, i thought he had the RST bumpers for some reason, your going to have to do alot of sanding my friend, starting off with a course grit like 400 or something then working down to a 1500+

Some models had body coloured bumpers (ghia i think?). It'd probably be alot less hassle to try and pick up a pair of these, I bet they wouldn't cost much.

a scrappy near me only wants £50 for the front and rear bumpers off an Si, might be worth having a search around the scrappys near you, you may even find one the same colour

tbh im not too keen on the si bumpers!(sorry) im looking to keep it "stock" looking with a few little touches (new sprog on the way) so im on kinda a spending cerfew :( at the mo
i think it'll the elbow grease route
