check each spark plug lead and spray wd40 or other penetrating oil on the connectiong (only take 1 off at a time lol)

is it misfiring on one cylinder?

mate that is no good for ure engine if water got into the engine it will wash the bores dry of oil and wash into the sump diliting the oil makin it to thin and wear the engine enourmously i wud change oil and filter straight away then see how it runs but it wud ave done quite a bit of damage i did it in 1 of me 1.1 and it never woz as quick again

Before the water actually had time to wash the oil from the bores it would have bent 2 connecting rods.

I can't see that it could get into a zetec unless there's a very low hung cone filter.

I'd hazard a guess it's plugs as dave said, and if not remove the ECu and all connections you can see and dry them out.
