noo, as long as the air filter doesnt sit directly under it its fine


engines are mainly water proof anyway, thats how some people pressure wash engines, after covering the filter and delicate electrics

ive got coilovers coming my way and seeing as ive never had them before im unsure what else is needed to fit, is it a case of just taking my current shocks and springs off and bolting them staight on or do i need other stuff?

yea its just a direct replacement for the original units buddy nice and easy to sort out if you have any problems pm me im sure i can help ya out and you will need a c spanner to adjust the height on them but its all very easy

Depending on how well the thread is lubed up ect, you should be able to jack the front up and undo the lock bolt if you have one and wind them up/down by hand (well two). If you have the spring seat and a locking ring, then you will need a spanner. But its fairly easy to make one if you have the tools Ive got a home made one somewhere in my toolbox along with a proper one too.

got it taxed today because i couldnt wait much longer to drive it, getting there now

hopefully book it in the bodyshop for the front bumper and bonnet late this week, got coilovers on the way, then mot next month

drove it around quite a bit today for the first time since october, then gave it a wash, didnt polish because i didnt see the point with the bumper how it is plus it looked like it was gonna rain

then stuck the rear bumper green strip on

keep it up and as said if the coilovers are well lubed u can just adjust them by hand mine are gaz and have the one "nut" and its quite easy to adjust with ur hand and some wd40

erm been driving the car for the last couple of days, all is well apart from every now and then i get a slight smell of burning bearing in mind the car hasnt had a good run since october. i dont know what it could be, i had a saxo that smelt of burning abit and it was the brakes sticking but ive checked them and thier fine.

any ideas? or ill have to buy a stronger air freshner lol

couple of things tho;

the nut that goes on the top of the thread on the fronts wont budge without turning the whole thread?????

plus on one of them theres a rubber washer/bush on the top under the nut but on the other one its under the cup thing?? im guessing its meant to be on the top like the other one?

one last thing, what are the knobs for at the bottom of the rear coilovers? one can be turn but the other ones stiff??

2nd pic is right mate, the bearing should be under the cup. The adjusters on the rear are to set the damping of the rear shocks. They do tend to seize up pretty easily. Very much doubt it will free off and will need to be reuilt if you want them fixed. Do the damping adjusters on the top of the front shocks work ok as they dont look to good from the pics?

Have you tried holding the threads at the top on the flats and then turning the nut off?

ok so ill try and get the top nut off and stick it under the cup,

i take it the rear adjusters not working wont make it un drivable?

and where are the damping adjusters on the fronts? is it the silver ring directly above the spring?

It depends what there set to mate, they may be set to hard or soft for what you want but you wont know until you fit.

It looks like the front adjusters might be missing aswell so you may have the same problem with the fronts. Ontop of the thread on the fronts there should be a bit with 2 flat sides and ontop of that should be a 8mm nut that you turn to adjust the damping on the front. Should be able to see in the pic below. EDIT can see in your pics there missing as you can just make out the holes where they would have gone into

last time i sent some on for refurb it was like £35 rear £45/£50 front.


take the one that wont undo to a garage and have the nut wound off with a windy gun, they norm sorts it out

agreed the airgun should knock it off, copper slip grease the threads up before fitting the nut back on

ok ill take them up a garage today to get the nut off. im propper pi$$ed off because the bloke i bought them off told me they were fully adjustable and had only recently been rebuilt and im sure one of the back shocks is leaking only one of the grub screws work on the front, the other front one is jammed in. both the backs have been drilled out. i would ask for a refund but hes in devon and it took him over 2 weeks to even post them so i doubt he would even entertain it.

i needed these to get through a mot ill struggle to make fitp now

Just a thought, if the nut is turning the whole thread and is jammed solid an air gun isnt gonna get it off (as the thread is turning) wouldnt it be better to get a nut splitter to cut it off and just replace the nut, you also have to consider it could be thread thats fooked. Just food for thought.

good point, the threads are moving with the nut, ill get them to the garage and see what they come up with

just been up the garage, he argued with me that the rubber bearing should be on top of the cup not under it??? so confused now
