Zilch :bassboy :4 speakers dont necessarily mean cleaner noise...4 speakers at 100wrms is more cone area...but dont mean they will play louder...they can help with imaging and positioning the speakers correctly making the illusion that they are playing louder...however, they are playing more direct to the driver/passenger...
i believe in less is more...you can get VERY VERY clear and loud using one pair of speakers...its just using the right equipment in the first place...if using lesser specc'd eqipment then you will need more of it to sound as good as a pair of something designed to do their job LOUD...if you get what i mean?
in my own vehicle, im bordering 6000wrms on bass and my front mids are designed for 200wrms...but im feeding them with 460wrms of clean power
i always recommend overpowering a speaker and giving it a clean signal rather than strangling an amp and sending a clipped signal to the driver and burning it out

ok that all makes sence, but are you saying you cant blow a speaker by sending it to much power from a decent amp? (and what about subs?)
deffinatly explains why my components dont sound particually great running of my h/u, gives me great hope when my amps arrive..
u can blow a speaker by putting too much power through it...you overdrive a speaker carefully...you can tell when a speaker just cant go any louder than the volume it is playing at...and at that level, you should call it a day LOL
and yep the same applies for a sub to
bassboy

ok, was just that 460rms through a 200rms rated speaker doesnt sound careful, ill leave it the people who wanna take it to the extreme. (and i asume its because you have really decent quality speakers that you could push it so far)
one other thig if you have time, have you ever heard of anyone splitting a car system four ways instead of three, ie, sub bass/bass/mids/tops?
just i know that with large pa systems, you can go either route, and i prefer the four way one.. gives an increadibly clear sounds and the music moves up and down, as well as sometimes right and left.
