Ok, sorry for the silence on this but I was waiting until I had news before I said anything.

I've experimented a bit and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do this, I'm hoping it's a bug with the board software (it's still on a pre-release version). The release version is now out and I'll be upgrading to this as soon as I have the time available - It's going to take a bit of time to re-apply all the modifications I've made to it.

I've already done the graphics though, sorry to those who had a go!

Can you replace the stars with a different image depending on group membership in phpBB, that might be one way of doing it, or am I thinking of a different package?
