Re: ollieRS ZVH turbo project UPDATE + PROBLEMS
they are, but if you compair them to what ford charge per hydraulic lifter, then there cheap as chips
think fords is like £30 per lifter, solid, £135 for the set..
i got newman solid ones in my rs mate (but i also have a newmans cam, not a kent anymore) and cant fault them so far.
if you do decide to go solid lifter, and maybe the newmans ones, i would consider it carfully, as the newmans ones could cause the cam to wear out, i could be wrong, but i wore a kent cam out, with kent hydraulic lifters in less than 1200 miles, so imo, kent isnt the best cam to have

Re: ollieRS ZVH turbo project
i have not updated in a very long while as i have just not had the time to sit infront of my pc but managed to squeeze abit of time in.
not gonna write a whole essay like usall but here is were i am at now.
its not great news as i am having to get a rebuild on the bottom end
to cut a long story short when i last updated on here i was gathering all the parts i need to put the engine back together which included -
st170 headgaskit
sitec racing head bolts
new water pump
82 degree thermostat
all new top end gaskits
new plugs
new oil + fillter
coolent
magnitc sump plug from MSD
cambelt + tensioner
fan belt
new engine mout
while i was at it i brought a new rocker cover (looks the nuts)
also brought a diffrent management ofab with greens an a chip done for ian howell by ahmed byjoo
PICS:

here is were the problems started
a few weeks befor i built the engine back up i boltted the new water pump on as i had a spare hour after work. all went well no probs apart from one of the bolts were not tourqing up as much as i wanted but i did load up with sealent for a sequare hold an seal.

booked 2 weeks of work to crack on with the car get it built an running over the weekend to have it mapped on the tuesday at grove garage the the rest of the week tinkering with it then the second week driving her up to scotland to see a few buddys an relax
........ NOO all the plans went out the window when i got to the stage on the saturday when i was pouring in the coolent, it pissed out from the bottom of the pump
the bolt had come back to haunt me or thats what i thort so after 100s of calls to FRSJON who has been a massive help
i wipped it all of to see what was going on an it turned out that the bolt had pulled the thread so i pulled out every hair i had left out an tried everything just to hold it on tight. tried stud an nuting it put it all back together an still leeked so i thort right sod it called out a company to heli coil it an all he done was rethread all the holes an hope for the best an yep still leeked but still charged me 130quid!!!
rung him up an told him the job was not finnished so back round he come an to my stupidaty it turned out that it was leeking from the gaskit (block to plate) i was using 1.6 gaskit when i should of been using a cut out that matched the plate
my home made gaskit

after getting that sorted it was time to fire her up
but that didnt work either!!!
not prime was coming from the pump so i tried everything and it turned out to be my 2i loom i converted to ofac then turning it to ofab didnt go right as i ended up buying a whole new loom an ecu plus the timmeing was out by 90 degree.
with it all running was time to get it trailerd up to grove garage as i could not drive it as for some reason it would not run on the chip plus i had the greens in too. dropped it of an the first thing mark said was ya cam sounds knackered
left it with him an awaited the call.
the phone call come after the weekend and bad news i needed a new cam as mine was a mess so i said go ahead with it like for like CVH 35 form kent ring me when its ready, week passes an i get a call saying had to turn the engine of when they was running the cam in as the oil preassure dropped below 8PSI
an there was a loud knoking noise coming from the bottom end.
so yes after everything i have done i have to rebuild my bottom end but with this i see an opertunity to go bigger an better so the engine is being taken to ian howell next week for inspection an also gonna talk about having a full zetec build.
sorry if i have nagged on alot really should keep this updated regular and my rubbish spelling
some pics of other bits i have done as well while its been of the road.
head going on.

inlet on

built up with new rocker cover

working in the scorching hot wether

a bit i cut out so i could move the rad forward so the actuator would stop hitting it

got me a new ramair filter made up

lots of rubbish on the magnetic sump plug after draining it

new hispec brakes

shims for the discs as the holes were made for grp A studs befor

lugs i had made for the adjustable lower arms

arms in place

comments please
cheers ollie

Re: ollieRS ZVH turbo project
UPDATE:
after long thorts an chats with ian howell (an FRSJON to
my directions with the engine is going in a complete different direction because after the amount of money i would spend on having the block rebuilt an then to slap a CVH head back on would be silly due to the CVH heads being a nightmare as everyone knows an i see this as an opportunity to go bigger an better.
with that in mind like i said the car has now come of the road for the winter to have all the body work done, new engine an managment and a few other goodies.
over the weekend i had time to strip the block an see what has caused the oil pressure failure an to also get the block to a bare shell as a mate is having it of me.
I did find something but i am confused as to were it has come from?
Pics

then i pulled all of this out!!!??

sump of oil looks full of metal

crank

mains, big ends, pistons an rods

fast an the furious on a budget lol

cheers ollie

they look like the remains of oil spray jets
all four of them, looks like the pistons have hit them
i machined mine so they didnt...must of been like that since day one for that engine

Re: ollieRS ZVH turbo project
Work has finally got started on the car after a year from being of the road due to the oil failure! i was not gonna put it back on the road an even went to strip it twice!! but i couldn't bring myself to doing it.
got offered something i couldn't resist so ive pulled my finger out with the MASSIVE big help from FRSJON who has been such a life save like usual
from being left outside with just a cover on it, everything needed a clean
before

after

then finally fitted the ZS rear beam with st170 discs an suprisingly it went on with no probs at all but i do need to tidy things up an fix cables etc but looks good

with the beam all fitted jon got his spraying hands out and got a few bits done
primed (cheeky pic of jon lol)

drying

finished

the stress from spending a day with me lol it charges its self haha

comments welcome
cheers ollie
