OIL LEAK???

Problem or technical question?

OIL LEAK???

Postby MIK3Y on Tue Aug 05, 2003 1:29 am

Seems to form on the ground below suspension arm joint with steering rack.
It's NOT gearbox oil though.

Ive got some cloth over my oil breather filter at the minute but would mean the oil would hav to fall down and backwards onto the wishbone then drip to the floor when parked.

Seemed to happen first time after booting it the night b4. Used quite a bit of oil.

Doesn't appear to be the sump plug or pullie seal.

ANY1 KNOW WHAT IT IS? Thanx

Where that blue Piper X breather filter is (top left of pic) is now just a pieace of cloth wrapped round due to it ripping.

Could this cause the oil leak? :-?

Seems to be to much of it though. Thanx

Won't be gearbox oil coming from that side of the car, possibly bottom crank pulley seal is leaking, have you looked down the back of the engine too? for signs of oil running down the back of engine.
Also take your cambelt cover off and look for any leaks in here.

So your saying the breather filter was ripped?

Sounds like a knackered one way valve on the breathers matey. Boost entering the crancase will cause the filter to tear and spew a bit of oil out.

HAs the oil spewed onto the bulkhead? At least an upshot of that is the column's UJ gets a bit of lube.

Check what MikeyXR2i said and also like BenR says its hard to diagnose these probs from afar!

it would probably start burning oil, blue smoke from the exhaust, due to the pressure build up of a blocked breather.
