nokia filmware problems, well x6 problems anyone?
right, story so far.
phone is a 3 month old nokia X6 16g
last night (5/1/11) phone promps me to a important software update, so i accept and install it like any other.
once the phone restarts i notic the contacts bar is missing, now if you have a X6 or such you know what this is and how to get it on the home screen.
anyway, i got through all the settings to get it back on the home screen to find all the correct boxes are ticked, but still no contact bar
i carry out a soft reset which doesnt make a difference, so i do a hard/master reset and still, im missing the contacts bar, but all settings say its there
i have been in contact with nokia, who thankfully told me to do the soft and hard resets, only i emailed back and told i had done that, to which a reply came asking me to do a hard reset......... cheers nokia, nice to see you read emails
as it stands with nokia, they have passed my recent email onto there "central technical team" which will contact me shortly as there idea for me to send the phone to them for repair just aint gunna happen as im not being without my phone for 2+ weeks.
apart from taking it to a shop to have the software flashed, is there anyway to get this problem sorted? online maybe?
(im trying to find somewhere that does the software flash in case i have to take it somewhere)
through orange i spoke to someone at nokia, from what little i could understand from the indian guy, i think he was on about filmware??? and im sure he said about going to a nokia care centre, but as a bove im trying to find one local at the mo

With other brands you can usuallyfind the tools reqd for a firmware flash on the support site, some sort of software update utility. Any other reports of the same issue? Have you tried disabling the contacts bar, soft reset, then re-enabling the contacts bar?

looked on the nokia site and found nothing, checked for updates and it says my phones upto date.
ive tried the soft and master reset, its made no difference, in the menu the contact bars is enabled, it just doesnt display anything on the home screen....
ive also got another problem, i have a battery monitor app on thephone which worked just fine, after the resets its gone, ive downloaded it again but it fails to install and doesnt show on anywhere on the phone dispite the fact ive downloaded it twice and tried to install...
ive found a place that is a care centre now so will give them a call about the score on reflashing the phone, which should be free as the phones still under warrenty and it wont effect the cover on it from orange, failing that, i could get a replacment from orange, which i might just do to save the hassle of having it flashed
pain in the arse isn't the word for it

With regards to the app now not working, its probably just not yet been updated to work with the latest updates.
It sounds like a reflash from a care centre would fix the problem. If there are any near you, take it to them, though if they aren't I'd try and get a new one sent to you so that you aren't without a phone for a while...

Re: nokia filmware problems, well x6 problems anyone?
someone on the nokia forum said its prob to do with the fact the phones on orange, which tbh im not shocked about, i had problems with a nokia once before and orange dropped the phone not long after getting it as it wouldnt accept the orange software, or it did but caused too many problems, so they could be right, someone else replied saying they had the same problem and they were on ornage and just got a replacment phone...
i been too busy to sort anything today but will give this care place a bell in the morning and see what they say, its local so worth a shot, if it dont work ill get a replacment
im thinking more of the re-flash, cos if it makes it sim free, it makes the phone worth more and i upgrade in about 6 weeks
, but if all there going to do is re-flash it with the same stuff orange have put on and leave it sim locked to orange, i just as well get a replacment from orange
