I love "just rolled out of the garage after months of being inside" shots, makes them seem so much more special
Headlights look good, did you get new ones?

Superb work there matey, you certainly have skills.
Loving the zorst as well, I have a blue flame on my bike and it's the nicest sounding can on the market IMO.
I'm surprised more car modders arent using them.

right i need to start thinking about how im going to connect up my intercooler. i have a new 1 coming shortly and its going to be single pass.
i have umm and arrr'ed about this and now its time for some other ppls views.
because my new cooler is single pass the inlet is on the nearside (passenger) and the outlet is on the offside. now i would like to keep the original turbo charge carrier as it keeps the engine bay looking factory like but the pipe goes off to nearside so it can connect to the original intercooler
no good for me
i have been looking into getting this reversed so it would go to the other side. its just a case of choppin welding and a bit of buildin the alloy up. i have seen this done a few times including on gavs frst but because i have the zetec the dipstick is at the front rather then on the back like the cvhs's and the cooler outlet would be right at the top comming out just under the slam panal so i think space would be tight.
i have asked lee at fusion fabrications if he could make something up but he would need the car there to ensure a perfect fit.
i think i could maybe go for the reverse charge carrier if needs be but thought i would post to see if any1 on here has any good ideas,
also does any1 no of a place to buy alloy boost pipes in different sizes
cheers

Lee at fusion did a reverse charge carrier pipe for my mates mk3 escort running an FRST engine - don't know if it would help but i could get some pics if need be.

I asked Lee if he could make one up for me, as I was keen to go single pass on mine as I was putting it all together. There were a few reasons for my sticking with a twin pass setup:
1. My spec and power expectations would make perfectly good use of a twin pass.
2. There were lots of twin pass coolers around to base mine on.
3. Lee couldn't form a profiled charge pipe that would give sufficient bonnet clearance.
4. Lee said at the time the insides of the charge carrier weren't symmetrical, so chopping and welding round the other way wasn't too simple and/or left a nasty step or two in cross-section.
TBH, the charge carrier's about as bad as things get for flow characteristics. It chokes it with a narrowing, it puts it through two 90-degree bends and it's generally not very direct. If you can get a simple pipe with a gradual bend over to the driver's side made up, go that way. It may be that you can get Lee to make up the pipe, then get someone else to form it with some heat to make an ellipse of it where it passes over the cam cover, to stop it coming into contact with the bonnet.

i spoke to lee about this on the phone last week, he said that he has is made 30 or so reverse charge carriers for the rs turbo and even had one on his own zetec turbo and he said tha he found no problems with it being restrictive althought i do agree with you james that the path the air has to travel thru the charge carrier isnt the best.
does anyone no the diameter of the standard boost pipes that the hoses fit over??
i was thinking about making a model of what i want and buying a lengh of the right width alloy aswell as a reducer to reduce it from the throttle housing size to the boost pipe and gettin it made up at a alloy fabrication place
and the idea of it catching on the bonnet hadnt even entered my head until now

also when speaking to mark at grove garage he was saying that he would never recommend putting a twin pass on a rs turbo just for the reason that they are too restricive and u can loose boost pressure

its been a while since my last update but with the car being stored over 40 miles away from where i live its been hard to actually being bothered to work on it. but spring is near and i need to pull my finger out
i ordered a new dipstick holder from auto specialists, its 1 with out power steering so thats 1 of my problems sorted,
as for the reverse charge carrier i called up scort and had a chat with him and he said he could reverse my original pipe no problem so i posted it off to him for him to work his magic, the results are amazing, it looks better then ever and the finish is so smooth
cheers buddy (cheque is in the post
)
now that was sorted it was time to fit the new single pass evo3 cooler
(ill let the pix do the talking)
the intercooler was on but something wasnt right. the cooler needed to go back a touch more so the bumper could fit on. the cooler couldnt go back because the rad was there and the rad couldnt go back any further becasue the turbo was close enough so the only option was to lose the standand ford rs turbo cooling fan and replace it with an aftermarket slimline item
lose the old fan
plently of room for a slim line
im not a 100% happy with the gap i cut in the bumper but it was a nightmare to do. with the car being so far away and only having the tools at work it was trial and error. im thinking about buying another bumper so i can have it perfect. im still gonna get the car back on the road and sort the bumper out in soon.

Great stuff dude, it really is a beautiful car you've made yourself there
Bring on the fan! Charge carrier looks standard
Mike - It reminds me of mine too, and remember my engine was once bolted into Mikee's! However...he made his car lovely and pretty :lol

Yeah that might be why I think of yours at the same time - although, these are the 2 red turbo's that stick in my mind for not being FRST's to begin with
