MUZ's 2.0 Stage 3 ZETEC PROJECT. Bonnet UPDATE 30/05/07

Post pics of your Fiesta here.

Postby XR_Ben on Sat Aug 13, 2005 4:46 pm

I'm liking that, very nice :Q Just without the M3's in the first pic!

With the tailgate, how about doing a shortend recess rather than smooth it off totally? I've seen varios golfs do that, and there's that euro mk2 Fiesta doing the rounds with a shrunk recess. Maybe an idea :-? As you say, not worth recessing into the bumper for it!

yeah i know the mk2 your on about and on my existing tail gate i have shortend the recess just to see what it looks like but i want the whole thing smoothed, i guess ill have to just stick with the shortend recess (as im getting a private plate like L1 RST so i can make the recess as short as possible.) and just make that sacrifice to have the rear bumper i want. Talking about it really makes me want to go work on it but its pi$$ing down!

hmmmm I never thought of magnetic plates, i might look into that actually, but i think they only hold onto the car upto 60mph. Yer i know RST plates are hard to get hold of, but being an L plate they aint so bad and at least somthing like L17RST will be shorter than L922 TTJ.

My magnetic L plates went bye bye off the front @ 55mph, the back stayed on fine upto 70mph.

Just the wind gets under the front one when it was on the bonnet and took off, had to buy 3 sets of plates in the end because i kept losing the front one

I've been doing bits and bobs here and there, but nothing really warrenting an update as of yet. Too busy with driving, apprenteship finding etc at the moment, but over the next couple fo months when i start to get more of the bits together more will be comming. I've kinda ran out of things to do as moneys real low at the moment and its all buying bits and spraying the shell.

Well finally got a few dry hours to go and do something. With work, broken hand, and dodgy weather I havent had much I can do. The car should be finding its way to a new home shortly in the form of new barn we're building, so I can work in the warm and dry through winter.

Well anyway, all Ive got to show is a pair of brand new ford wings and some brand new fog light surrounds. But there should be some regular updates from now on :aaah: :oooh:

Welded up the side repeater holes.

Only a small parts update. Been working silly hours lately so havent doine much more bodywork.
Ive removed the wings and front panel, but thats about it.

But I've added some parts to the shed in the form of....

Rover 820 Inlet manafold and fuel rail

Image

with the zetec flange welded on

Image

and a mocal oil cooler (all off my bro)

Image

Not much, and not too interesting I know, but untill after x mas, I can't see much body work being done.

Yeah need to actually get up there and do something to it. I got the filler cap smoothing spot on then noticed a dent/warp so did it again, and then kinda just left it lol. Reason they aint smooth is im borrowing me old mans orbital sander when it warms up, so it will be easier. Plus i want your drivers door now. Not too sure on the no handle look on both sides anymore, looks kinda boring.

Lukes actually unsure if hes given you mine, but if he has I don't care I'll get another one. I wont need one for a while, as you may have noticed.

Yeah Adams been around it more than I have recently  . Too wet and cold to do body work, and I'm spending some money on the 2i tidying that up at the mo. Will be starting a mini thread on that as soon as the new wheels etc come. But I cant wait to get cracking with this one again. Got some ideas running around I'm playing with..... maybe RWD, we'll see

I'm going to look at a Mondeo SI on Friday off soemone from work, so hopefully I'll have an engine sorted. Apparently its a 2.0 4x4 but coming from the man who "drinks a crate of fosters a night" I'm not holding my breath.

It's been a while. I seem to change my mind as often as Adamski's sexuality. Anyway I've desided to persevere as the car has started to come together.

Started to re build the front end.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Going to have a one off bonnet. This should be arriving next week. :D

Image

Its a Lancia Delta bonnet. Going to be cutting out the vents with bulge and welding them into a standard fiesta bonnet. Should be interesting and a little different to the turbo vents.

Also these arrived to time the Zetec up properly.

Image

Which will be bolted to this Tuesday

Image

And also this to keep me in a straight line.

Image

And started the under sealing. Worst job ever to do.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

I'll be spraying it in July down at my dad's yard where he sprays the lorries so it won't be a s**t job as hes done it tens of times before. As long as I dont change my mind it will be paint M.V Nato Green Satin.

Dude! The first time I had my ZT running for twenty minutes or so doing leak checks etc I was amazed by the heat it generated, just at idle, and was looking at grafting a Lancia Delta vent into the bonnet over the turbo. That pic you've posted shows the bulge on it too - that'd solve the inlet manifold clearance issues I have! Bugger, should've done it!!

Loving the fresh panels, and I say it EVERY time I see it - really nice to see everything being undersealed, it will last and last :aviator: Good to see you getting somewhere with it :)

I think I suggested the Lancia vent to you as I saw the positives of it. Even though mines N/A and wont be generating the same heat, a large functional vent over the manafold cant be bad thing.

The verdict is still out on my choice of underseal though. I'm using Hamerite with waxoil from Halfords. It doesn't dry hard, more sets but remians soft and flexable/tacky. Seems ok but time will tell. Needs another quick coat though, didn't notice until the flash from the camera.

Fack

Muz - Waxoyl is not Underseal. Underseal is a thick, tarry gooey paint. Waxoyl is, as you say, a light surface covering that wipes of fairly easily, and won't resist stone chips etc the way Underseal does.

I'll have to over paint it with underseal then or remove it and stonechip etc first. Should be ok. Only done one side so far. Says Underbody Seal on the tin. Misleading!

Remove the Waxoyl first I'm afraid to say, you need to paint the more permanent Underseal/stonechip onto the panel first, as the Waxoyl isn't a permanent enough surface to paint onto.
