MOONDUST MONSTER update feb 2013
Re: MOONDUST MONSTER update 19/2

Interesting on the turbo running 1.7bar. I've got the same turbo (hks gt-rs) and run mine at 1.5bar but i've been told its no longer efficent above that. All on a sr20 btw.
what turbine housing is the hks version?

52 trim and 64 exhaust housing, with mild cams these turbos can run just over 400bhp happily on sr's.
Coilovers and cage wanted

Re: MOONDUST MONSTER update 19/2
fabbed up a throttle cable bracket with some help from a friend. Had to use a different cable because of the cosworth tb, went for a sierra carb one.
the inlet just needs to be cleaned maybe a lick of paint and a new tps because that weber one is way too big!,then it will be fitted.

going to be taking the turbo off sometime this week to see what room i have with the new turbo housing and wastegate.
i dont think im going to have much room to plum it back in the downpipe ,so its looking more towards a screamer pipe.
how do you lot feel about screamer pipes? i not 100% on them too loud really.
here's the room i have now(dont watch the mess

Re: MOONDUST MONSTER update screamer pipe
Took the turbo off mocked up the new housing and wastegate and only got room for a screamer exiting where the screenwash bottle was.
the washer bottle will be relocated in the boot or somewhere i can find space.

MOONDUST MONSTER update screamer
Big update.
There's a big gap as I haven't updated for about a year. So if there's any questions please ask.
Basically the car was put together last summer with megasquirt v3 ran fine but got my hands on a life racing f88rs which is the Mc Hammer of ECUs (can't be touched).

The car hasn't been fully mapped yet with all the features (t/c , l/c, ALS etc), but a couple of mates of mine are very handy with the lifecal software and have put a good map on.
This is the set up and base map.

Here's a video on the dyno for power run

The car made 313bhp and 274lb/ft @ 1 bar

The ECU also links up to a nice little monitor that displays everything and more! Mounted it in the ashtray

Brilliant. I love this car. Serious ECU now!
You should ground the airbag pin on the clocks to disable the warning lamp

plans are more traction!

The ecu has alot of features to aid traction because atm a bar is only useful in gear 4.
So traction control, launch control, and boost controlled in gears and revs.
Anyone got anymore ideas on controlling torque steer and getting power down?

rose jointed camber adjustable arms
equal length driveshafts
coilovers with 370lb spring rate
mtx box with quaife lsd
semi slick tyres
what more can be done.

Defiantly better than my old set with the rs1800i inlet the engine pulls a lot smoother now and feels like the engine is finely breathing properly.

Just a custom plate to mount them really.
That is if you have an ECU and loom to support them.

Re: MOONDUST MONSTER update oct 2013
Not a major update, I've just been enjoying the car really. done a few things to the car though.
I changed the brake master cylinder and servo over for a better feel of the pedal, which turned out to be a bit of mix match work.
Tried the mondeo one and it was too big, tried the mk5 escort servo which fit but i wasn't really happy with that one either as i wanted to use a bigger size bore MC. Tried the focus servo as it works with the bigger bore mondeo MC but unfortunately didnt fit as well.
The problem was the servo would hit the mtx75 gearbox mount on the larger servos which the large size bore master cylinder fits, so i needed a medium sized servo which can fit a large bore MC.
i had alot of paper weights after this.

After some searching i went for mk6 fiesta servo with a mondeo mk1 fluid reservoir which both fit perfectly no cutting or moding.

While i had the brake lines disconnected i fit a mk5 fiesta rear beam with 280mm focus discs. I swopped beams as i needed a un-driven wheel speed sensor for the ecu, which is now set up with traction control and launch control.
The boost is now controlled through the ecu in gears and revs. It peaks off around 1.4 bar in gear 4 and 5. I haven't took it for a dyno session yet but will do soon for a little mapping and print out. it should be around 350bhp at a guess.
The car is much easier to drive with gradual boost and traction control. torque steer is at it lowest
Put new set on rsr semi-slicks on as well which helps as well.

Fitted one of these as i dont have a centre console.
