Re: MK3 2.3 Duratec Turbo. Update 03/09/09
Splendid! I can spend hours in hose/hydraulic suppliers, fascinating stuff.
Just out of interest, did they cut the steel pipe and flare it ready to swage the hose on, or did you remove the old swages and join to the steel pipes in the same position as the original hoses?

Yeah they carefully cut the old swage off on each hose, leaving the Fiesta "pedal box end" hose with the rubber flexi section still in place and leaving the Focus one with just the metal "gearbox end" pipe. The vacant end of the Fiesta rubber hose was then swaged on to the Focus metal end and hey presto - one hybrid hose for my mixed bag of a car!

Thanks mate, my local place does a similar thing. I wondered if you'd found a supplier who could reproduce the Ford style crimps on the hard lines. £7 is a seriously good price for the work!

I was going to ask as well, do you happen to know my Cousin Tom Beardsley?

Re: MK3 2.3 Duratec Turbo. Update 03/09/09
Not f*cking happy!!
Right, while I was at work (up in North Yorkshire) yesterday I checked my phone and found loads of missed calls followed by a picture message starting with "sorry mate..."
Here it is below

Meanwhile back in Colchester, the Commanding Officer was due to inspect the workshop so the Sgt Major wanted my car moving outside. My mate, Taff phoned my wife who works on camp to get the keys but that wasn't good enough for the Sgt Major. He went and ordered some complete mong with an IQ of about 2 to jack the front of my car up and man-handle it into a parking space outside on a trolley jack, uphill and on uneven ground!
Obviously the tiny jack-wheels dug in and the car wouldn't move, mong-boy then proceeded to ram his shoulder into the O/S wing, denting it in the process, knocking it off the jack and maybe causing untold damage to the underside of the car
I'm still working up in Catterick until Nov 26th so was 250 miles away and completely powerless to do anything!
I'm home now for the weekend though so am going in to look at the damage today, really dreading seeing what a state it's in...
I'm really hacked off as I left it in my own work-area for safe-keeping while I'm away up North and entrusted some good friends of mine in that dept to look after it, which they've tried their best to do. I wasn't expecting some complete bell-end from another dept who I don't even know to start man-handling my pride and joy and damaging it

Here's what I saw today when I pulled the cover off
From what I've gleaned from the lads, the idiot tried LIFTING the front of the car by the O/S wing
I'm going to be in work a week Thursday and will be taking this moron to one side, demanding he pays for the damage or I will just walk up to his car with a sledge hammer...

Yeah the guy that physically did the damage is only a young "Tom" - he was ordered to move it onto the jack (which he tried to do by lifting it by the wheelarch due to the car being too low
I'm off back to Catterick tomorrow but have a few days off a week on Wednesday so am going in the workshop to have it out with some people and try to get to the bottom of all this, in the meantime I have some good mates there helping me out and hopefully I'll get compensated for the damage.
I would never dream of treating someone elses property in this manner and regardless of rank/status no one has the right to just trash other people's kit

Yeah I was so surprised that someone who is a qualified mechanic in the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers could be such a mong when it came to moving a small car!
Pinning down who is actually to blame is not going to be easy as the spaz that moved it was ordered directly by someone else (the Army's great isn't it!?
). I know that if I kick up too much of a stink over this that the boss will just have enough and get me to find somewhere else to keep my car (not a bad thing at the moment though!
).
I can't get there during working hours until a week on Thursday but, like I said, I have some good mates there fighting my corner before I get back and go ballistic on someone!

well if you do keep it there you will have to leave a key in the workshop somewhere to prevent it happening again, but that said why didnt someone go and get the key from your mrs as mit would be 1000 times easyer than jacking it up, esp if your handbreaks on!!!!
anyway good luck in finding the baxtered who did it, and getting to the bottom of it mate.

Re: MK3 2.3 Duratec Turbo. Photos of damage now up...
Been into work today and left a note on the computer belonging to the boss of the lad (Private NumbNuts) that did it with my phone number on, asking him to get the guy to phone me ASAP. I have to be back up in North Yorkshire tonight so relying on my mates back in the workshop to help me out.
The keys were left where my wife works as my lads know to get them from my her (she works 800 metres away from the workshop) should it need moving. My blokes were already on the case getting my wife to bring the keys (to get the steering lock off) when these cowboys from another department came and caused chaos!
Had a look under the car today, thankfully no damage there...

such a shame to see this damage from sheer stupidity.
the wings are so fragile. i almost dented mine from polishing it once.
why couldnt your sgt wait for the keys instead of letting these mongs loose on it ???
i was gonna say it may push out but im 99% sure it would leave a crease of some sort.

Work have been in touch with me
- a good friend of mine went and told the bloke in charge of the workshop (Sgt Major) about the damage but he just went nuts and told my mate to get out after saying that it's HIS workshop NOT mine so he doesn't give a fcuk if my car gets damaged on military property!
Some good mates have tried pulling the dent out but I don't hold out much hope of it looking too great... For now cosmetics will have to wait as I want the car up and runnning first then re-direct funds back to the bodywork.
Cheers again for the kind words

Cheers mate, your words echo both mine and those of my friends at work. I haven't had the "pleasure" of meeting that bloke yet but I will be visiting him next week... Rank doesn't come into it when it comes to personal kit - I've invested a hell of a lot of time, effort and money in this car - plus I was given permission by pretty much the whole "top corridor" to keep it there as that bay is unused.
Time to get it finished and get it out of there
