HCS PIMP :you started it up yet and let it run if so wheres the vid?

I may have some trouble starting it seeing as there's no Fuel pump, regulator, injectors, fuel pipes, spark plugs, loom, ECU or MAP sensor! :aaah:

HCS PIMP :and are you gonna retorque the head bolts or are they stretch bolts i cant remember

They're APR Head studs so yes will need re-torquing after first run-up which is a Bic™ seeing as that entails removing cams and the cam-chain cover :(

lol the mother of all afterthoughts designing a head that requires the removal of cams to retorque head bolts lol

thats why i love a series engines u can take the head off and have a new gasket in in under 2hours as only the tappets to adjust and no major things in the way lol other than the manifold

Went into work today to tidy away my stuff (mostly bits of car! :D ) before I move to North Yorkshire for 8 months :(

While I was there I couldn't resist fitting the Focus RS clocks as they've been sat in my drawer for god knows how long

Image

Image

Image

I think they look none too shabby myself :Q Just got the epic wiring marathon to do now to get them all up and running :oooh:

Other than that my poor Silver MK3 is just going to be mothballed in the workshop in Colchester while I'm away  Looks like my plans for getting it ready for show season are out the window - Perks of being in the Army I guess!

As I'm going to need some form of transport for the weekly slog up and down the A1 I've paid Glen on this forum a visit to see the MK3 1.8 Diesel RS/XR2i replica he's selling and after taking it for a spin I've decided to buy it to use while I'm working up North :) I did view a few other motors on ebay but his was better than them all and I have had enough of greedy sh*ts on ebay either shill bidding on their own gear or pulling listings right near the end! :x

Image

Glen's motor's just the job, should manage 50mpg and still has a retro-cool charm about it, been rolling roaded at 56bhp too! :o - I'll do a TDDI conversion on it once I've finished the Silver Monster :bonkers:

To be honest, I didn't want to rush the car only to have it doing its maiden voyage 250 miles up the A1(M) - then using it for the 500-mile round trip every week! :aaah: When I do get it done I want to run everything in properly and gently - the Diesel can take the strain until then :)
After the first buyers of our house pulled out, we've sold again but are still waiting for the mortgage to go in and have been cleaned out by greedy solicitors in the mean time (don't you just love them! ) so there was no way I could have finished it before going to Catterick :(

It will be finished this year just not as soon as I'd hoped!

Cheers for the kind words guys :)

The room I have on camp in Catterick is like a bloody shoe-box, to make things even better there's virtually no phone reception either so in order to use my lap top and dongle I have to walk outside! :x  (until I buy a USB extension) Still, It's only for 8 months...

I collect the white MK3.5 Diesel tomorrow so will be driving that back up here from Colchester on Sunday.

As for the FRS clocks I paid about £100 for them about a year ago. Although they look good, they are by no means straightforward to get functioning in a Fiesta MK3! :aaah:

You need a VSS (Vehicle speed sensor) in the gearbox, reading the ring mounted to the crownwheel (where your speedo drive pinion normally goes). Both later MTX75 and IB5 'boxes came with these in Focus/Mondeo derivatives.

You also need some kind of frequency modifier as the standard setup is calibrated for 18" rims on the Focus RS - Most people only use 15 or 16 inch rims on Fiestas with smaller tyres too so this requires the speedo to be re-calibrated by use of a "Speedo-Healer" (used commonly for motorbikes - cost about £50ish).

Lastly you need a Focus partial loom and ECU for the clocks to be driven correctly - there are CAN bus signals that cannot be replicated without great effort so it makes sense to use the Focus bits.

I know, that's loads of hassle just to have some funky clocks but it's nice to have something a bit different! :Q

Mega happy - I'm back on the road again in a MK3(.5) Fiesta :D Went and collected Glen's White Diesel FRST/XR2i replica today and am glad to have some daily wheels (after the £116 train fare I had to pay to get home on Friday! :x ).

The wife sat patiently behind me in our Focus TDCi on the A12, at least she doesn't have to feel guilty about having the car anymore while I suffer on public transport! :oooh:

Popped my head into work to have a quick check on the Silver 2.3 Beast, just made me more p*ssed off that I've not got any time to spanner on it at the moment

Alright Jim... Hows it going mate. Hope the Derv is doing you proud as it was for me. I kinda miss the little fella..

Have read through this entire post and Im absolutly amazed, I know the engine is a massive thing, but this like the FRS Dials really stand out for me, as you say its sometimes the smaller things really stand out and knowing the work going into to get them in there, you have to take ya HAT off and respect it.

aside from the Dials, the car is the nuts (well now it is, not so much when you 1st bought it lol).

Silver is my fav colour in mk3's. Will deffo keep in touch and come have a gander at this once its all finished and on the road.

I thought about the TDDCi conversion on M412, but thought nah, too much hassle with a cossie as well, shame that was in haveing it all setup and few bits done and not being able to see it when you picked up the Fiesta Derv.

Crikey Glen, never knew you had a Cossie tucked away! :Q Yeah the little Derv is soldiering on well - already done over 500 miles in her and she only sips the juice :)

Just ordered another piece of the Duratec-Turbo Jigsaw today - a set of 630cc Siemens injectors from the good 'ol USA - should be with me in a couple of weeks... :Q

A few more essential parts have arrived this week :D , namely a nice 2m length of Goodridge 200-series -6 AN fuel hose (£25 a metre! :o ), the Sytec fuel pressure regualtor and the Siemens 630cc injectors (from America).

Image

Image

Image

Also ordered a load of Goodridge 200-series -6 AN/jic 45/90 degree and straight female connectors (came to over £100! ) Still waiting for them to arrive...

The project is still very much going ahead, it's just impossible to spend any time on it at the moment what with me working in Catterick until Dec '09 and the car (and my family/home) being located in Colchester, I really want to get this car finished - I'll just keep accumulating the parts I need to complete it for now. Fuel pump next :)
