mk3 panels

Postby rsturbonutter on Mon Sep 29, 2014 7:48 pm

I have just had a very interesting phone call with a chap who runs a group for sierras on facebook they are also a club which you may have seen at ford shows. They are the sierra appreciation club. Well anyway back to the thread title he is able to place on a large number of genuine ford panels. He can literally anything from the mk1 cortina through to 90's cars like sierra mk5/escort etc.
He can get all mk3 panels. I was interested in the mk3 rear quarters which he can supply for £170 delivered to your door. These are genuine ford items. He can also get the rs turbo bonnets for £200 again delivered to your door. Let me know if anyone is interested in any panels as he I willing to knock some money off if we group buy or order a couple of items at a time. This might be the last chance we have to get hold of the rare panels that seem so hard to come by these days and keep the dreaded tin worm at bay for many years to come

Interesting, where is he based? I would rather collect the panels myself than have the risk of them being damaged during delivery.

I'd be interested to see a full list of what's available, does he have these items in physical stock as I am somewhat sceptical to be honest.

I have also spoke to this person today as well and was told that they are in touch with a company who has bought the ford tooling but will know more tomorrow after a meeting with them to find out what is and not available, let's all hope most panels will be available...

So not genuine panels then! Magnum produce quite a few reproduction panels although the quality of them isn't a patch on the originals. It is unlikely any of the original tooling is still around in any case. I think you may being led up the garden path here and what you are being offered is probably the same panels that anyone can order via Magnum.

My other half's Uncle's company made the wings for the Racing Puma and the tooling was destroyed due to the cost of storing it/not having the space. This is likely to be the case for many of the older Ford panels. I enquired about getting the tooling made up to start reproducing the Racing Puma panels and the cost of doing so was about £30,000 a panel.

@ tompeteRS do Magnum supply rear quarter panels for the Mk3 and if so any idea of cost? I had a look at their website but they only list panels for Escorts and Mk1/2 Fiestas?

@ rsturbonutter does your chap have actual stock of genuine Mk3 rear quarters and if so, how many has he got?

Magnum only produce what they have currently listed - they don't do full rear quarters for the MK3 yet.
