Re: M4D RST Track Fiesta

After spending the morning at the scrap yard i manged to cut out this bracket to fit the gearbox into the Fiesta, i also have the gearbox rubber mount to bolt on to this and then allow the gearbox to supprted along the inner chassis rail, turret.
The 6 speeder arrives today and next week i shall recieve the engine mounts so i can offer the gearbox up with the zetec enigne.

Re: M4D RST Track Fiesta - area 6 manifold
UPDATE
Well only a small update really but progress has been made.
I have sold all of the old stuff now even exhaust and jubilee clips lol, so as quick as i had the money i managed to blow it on a Kfc and new goodies.
Not had much time to source other parts but have all the specs of everything needed now. This weekend i shall offer up the new gearbox with the mock up 2litre engine i have. Once happy with the position he mounts can be fabricated and welded in.
I do have one very sexy inlet though for the job from Area 6.
I got the main body shot balst today and a coat of paint on top.
Just need injectors now to fit. :top:
Ignore the powered by stickers i stuck them on then changed my mind

Re: M4D RST Track Fiesta 28/09-update
Well had a fairly busy weekend and the engine and box is now sit in the hole il pos some pics tonight, i have ordered some steel to fabricate the gearbox mount as im scrapping the focus mount that bolts to the gearbox as this mounts the box to high on the chassis, it need to be as close to /on the chassis rail.
With the expected power there will be alot of stress forced the mount.

Re: M4D RST Track Fiesta 28/09-update
We have slight progress......
Had a good weekend so far of progress so thought best to log it on here for all to see.
After few weeks i can finally report the gearbox mount(main one) is all fitted and welded into place. the mount in the car is looking like this...
The enigne in the pic is the mock up engine. As you can see the gearbox is failry narrower than standard box but the bulkiness i mentioned earlier is visable here, so much so the brake servo/master cylinder has to be lost.

The picture only shows the mount in its intial trial fitting, its now all welded and painted.
With the sale of the autometer gauges i was under the pressure of thinking of a new way to bring back some creature comforts in the car.
When i first set out to build the car, weight was key to the whole package.
I proved to myself and others it could work and that the weight could be shed with it tipping the scales at a little under 800kg.
The only downside which i found to not as much annoy me but more bug me was the practicallity of the interior.
In the summer with the poly windows it was like a bloody green house and when out in pitlane or on track it was almost umbearable, you would sweat like a pig and come of track a good two stone lighter and feel like passing out.
Something neede to be done... The adding of the air ducts on the poly sun roof helped but was not the definitive answer.
The gauges themselves were not as acurate as i would have hoped they looked pretty but this defeats the object, function over fashion comes 1st.
Decided now to go the digi dash route, not 100% yet as to which but a stack or Aim display will be fitted.
Saturday i headed to the scrapies and collected a dashboard tre to find a black one rather than the norm grey one.
Bingo.... With weight key to the car i attacked it with the grinder and lost the glove box and fuse box holder, basically cutting the lower half of the dash .

Pretty happy with the look and was able to retain the air vents for some summer time cooling, and winter heating too. The new stack/aim should fit nicely in the dial area too. Nice carbon centre panel to house all the nessecities too. :top:
Next was to remove the dash from the car, 4 bolts later the stainless bar was removed along with 5 mins taking the steering wheel and stalks off.
Trail fitting lined up with the cage i drew what needed to be lost.
With about 8 attempts and as many cutting sessions the dash fitted snugly to the cage.

Happy with that now :top: :top:
The vents should just about work with room to hook the vent pipes up later.
Still as yet to clean the dash up but im undecided to go flocked or keep the dash as it is. with a good clean and polish to come....
Only thing i found with the last bits i had flocked they get fluffly and dusty easily..

Overall picture of new dash set fitted... Im happy with it just need to get it all finished of and the new digi dash ordered up and fitted.

Re: M4D RST Track Fiesta 28/09-update
Tom, cheers for your kind words
Those aeroflush pins are spot on... I had the standard type fitted before and twice left them undone then drove off luckily both times i noticed -but only due to on lookers warning me- thakyou to those people...
I fitted mine also after the bonnet was painted not ideal but its failry starightforward..
Basically you want to remove the rubber buffers from your slam panel and this is where you attach the pins themselves once these are fitted to here(dont worry about ajustment yet) thread them down so there fairly flush with the bonnet. Then close the bonnet onto them lightly then lift slightly and drop slighlty.. Basically you leave a small mark on the paint.
Then with a 8mm ish drill bit carefully drill through the first skin on the bonnet. then drill through the final top layer of the bonnet.
Once you have doone this you can locate your template that that the aerocatches come with.
For the next task you need some card some masking tape and a black marker pen.. dram around the template onto the bonnet.
then cover in masking tape and do the same again. then with the card tape this around the hole your going to cut out...
Right the tricky part.... with either a hole cutter on a drill only a small one drill out the centre area as close to the marker pen line. use drill bits of various sizes.. (remebering to pad the bonnet if still on car underneath). once you have what lloks like a messy pattern.
Pop to BandQ for a cuppa tea and a bacon roll ---Oh while your there collect a pack of grinding stones for your drill.
Then basically on ya return to the garage. grind/sand the remaining parts out. then trial and error until the catches fit snug.
Roughly 1hr per side....
I shall try to take a few pics tomorrow for you but the bonnet is wrapped up whist im working on the car.
any questions please ask....
P.s the reason for the tape and card... if the grinding stone gets to hot it falls of the splindle and that puts an inch scratch in ya bonnet..
