Looking for advice on fitting 16 inch wheels

Postby Amelia1987 on Fri Dec 05, 2014 1:56 pm

I have finally found a nice fiesta RS Turbo, it has been lowered and has a stainless exhaust, i fancy fitting some 16's and i beleive 7J with an ET of 35mm is best, but am i going to have to cut the arches?

something i really don't want to do.

Also, has anyone please got any pictures of a 16 inch 7J wheel, like a comp, i've seen the escort cosworth wheels fitted and mondeo si.

Thank you

Nope, I'm running 16's on et 35 oz wheels and it's fine,
Mines on coil overs but should still be ok on other setups.

Only when you get wider than 7 will you encounter problems.

Sometimes its a bit of a minefield.

Ive had 16" mondeo rims, ET38 and 16" Comps ET35 fitted both with different offsets.

When i had 16" mondeo rims with Spax uprated suspension i used 195-45-16 tyres and had scrubbing on the kit, my mate used 195-40-16s and had no scrubbing.

With my comps i used AVO coilovers and had to use spacers to clear the shock as the offset was quite far in. I used 195-40-16s with these and had no scrubbing anywhere, even when dropped 70mm for a laugh!!

I would always use Coilovers and 195-40 tyres from now as youve got so much more choice regarding damping and height adjustments. If not then you run the risk of the wheels fitting ok but then when driving, if the spring load is too stiff or too flexible you can scrub when going over gradual bumps and speedbumps etc.

As mentioned above anything wider than 7" you will either encounter problems OR have to have the car setup like youve got scaffold poles as suspension..."Rock Solid"!!, which can take the fun out of driving it!!. :D

Had 16" 7j rs7's on both my frsts, both lowered, and had no need to cut any arches with 195/40/16 tyres ;)
