FRSJON :any updates wayne? also just noticed it has a isle of wight registration lol
I got it out the garage again?
It's done virtually 1000 miles now. Hasn't used any oil at all but occasionally there is a slight worrying smell of oil burning! That said, the oil is slightly over-filled. It's still horrible to drive at the moment hence not bothering with it too much.
It has been out and about since Ford Fair. I took it to FordSport SW Regional Show at Weston Super Mare, Trax and Combe Action Day just parked up. Also a couple of long scenic-route trips down to Somerset and back etc.
It will all resume soon
As for the reg, it's a private plate with my initials lol. Original was DYA (pics in first post), registered in Taunton, Somerset.

Re: "K80" ZT - Work Resumes (16/12)
So, I've found some time to get back on this after the car moved to its new home. After speaking to Graham at GRS Motorsport, I've removed the radiator to get a better copy made. Also discovered a bit of oil in my intercooler & boost hoses which is concering since the turbo's only just been rebuilt! Just hoping it's the remains from when I ran the engine with it blown.
After looking at the bare front end now, I've decided I'll be getting a new front pannel and 2 new front wings before painting. The whole car just needs tidying up now. Primary focus was to get it all to fit, now it's in, I need to make it look less botched
I was going to check to see if my new injector seal idea was still holding up but I ended up losing a torx bit and having to fit some coilovers to a certain orange mk5 instead

Might be mapped by then but won't be painted. Still, that's all it needs for track anyway lol.

Re: "K80" ZT - New Radiator (30/03)
So, after about 6 weeks I finally got my new custom made radiator delivered from GRS. Hats off to Graham, he built it 100% to how I wanted it! It's basically a modified larger version of the standard 1.6 Zetec rad
Old and new:

Because the core is almost twice as thick, the bonnet catch sadly had to go

New rad in place:

I put the front end back on to see how much space I have left in between the rad and intercooler. I can still pull the 'cooler forward a touch and I'll now use just 1x12" fan instead

With the bonnet catch now gone, Aerocatches had to go on. So I started with a hole:

And then a bigger hole, scary times doing this, although I did finally manage to pull that dent out someone gave me:

And then finally an enormous hole.

At this point I realised I've gone and bought the wrong bloody ones.
I have "flush" ones rather than "plus flush." As a result, they do look hideous with the screws showing in the body. I'll probably get them changed soon, they mount the same anyway.

Pin on the slam pannel:

And the car now at the end of a busy weekend:

Next job will be relocating the battery to the boot. With the rad off it's easy to see how squashed up and restricted the air filter is (see previous posts). I've also changed the injector seal setup again, I believe this may finally have cured it but I won't know until I've put some miles on them.

Bit extreme just to remove a dent! LOL
Na good work mate, I like the fact you remived the while bonnet catch plate rather than just chopping the front bit off .
Good work so far mate

Looking good! Were you having water temp issues with the standard rad, or are you just pre-empting anything going bad?

It didn't overheat but the fans were having a hard time keeping it at bay. They'd kick in only a few seconds after pulling up somewhere. I don't think it would've coped at all if it was pushed a bit more.

Ahh, OK. Have you tried a heat shield on the leading edge of the turbo? Redline Water Wetter is pretty good, too.

I've got all available heatshields fitted to the front and top of the turbo, although the water rail sits quite close to the exhaust manifold shield, which probably needs addressing. I've been toying with the idea of fitting a turbo sock/blanket too but we'll see how the new rad copes first

Re: "K80" ZT - Back On The Road (21/04)
Some days off and good weather allowed me to finally get the car back in one piece and on the road again. Coolant temps are still a bit high for my liking though
First things first was to change those horrible Aerocatches, so the correct ones were put on instead:

Much better!
And after faffing around with the bumper to improve the airflow and space between intercooler/radiator/fan etc, it was back together again

And a random shot of both of my cars together. Such a difference in size

Re: "K80" ZT - Battery Relocation (21/07)
Bit of a late update since this happened a few weeks ago and everyone's seen it at shows by now
The air filter was very small and compact in a tight space, so, to put that right, the battery tray had to go! This is a bit of a useless update since I didn't even take many pictures!
Since this was a lot of cutting and grinding, I got kitted up

After cutting various small strategic chunks off, the tray was out. After a bit of hammerite you would never have known it was there

In its place now, a dinky little junction box

Next up, the cable was secured to the car tightly (with enough flex)

In went a HUGE fuse

Battery box bolted in, battery fitted and jammed in place with some wood

The finished article, minus a boot carpet that I should have fitted before bolting the battery in...

With all that new found space, in went a Group A cone filter and since it ended up right under my bonnet vent, a stainless heat(rain)shield.

The chatter now is much much more subtle, sadly no longer screams at things on full chat
Progress was going well until I noticed a few puffs of blue smoke on the overrun...
Then eventually a lot of smoke
After some investigation, everything is fine, panic was over. The problem was after fitting the new filter/shield, the venting tube from the oil breather got completely blocked and jammed up. After freeing this, normality was restored, phew!
The troublesome pipe, bit of an afterthought but I got fed up of smelling the oil fumes in the car...

Normality restored
MOT later this week, then hopefully it'll be ready for Ford Fair!

Re: "K80" ZT - Drumming (12/08)
Minor mod, switched the rear brakes back to drums. Regained my confidence under braking and cornering, plus the tyres don't scrub now!

Still got 1 or 2 little things to sort out and then it'll be mapped and stripped down for bodywork prep.
Side note, also fitted audioscape speaker pods/bins etc.

Re: "K80" ZT - Still Progressing (Slowly!) (25/02)
I've not driven this since October and I miss it terribly! The last few weekends have been very busy!
It's currently got the engine back out, have to change a piston! No panic though, everything's under control and will be operational again soon
There's a new inlet manifold setup from a mk1 Focus RS, fitted with VXR injectors so hopefully that will finally, once and for all cure the injector problems. Special thanks to 'FRSJON' for finding these injectors for me! No matter what you read elsewhere, Jap injectors are not worth the hassle!!!
Whilst everything's out there's 3 new front panels going on and paint has arrived too! Yes, paint!
A very nice Porsche colour, that one I posted up back in August. I'm not sure when the whole car will get done but the hard to reach areas around the front panels are being sprayed up very soon. I don't blame anyone for copying me with this colour, It's very difficult to get a photo of it in the tin but from what I've seen of it so far it's beautiful!

There's a quite a few other little things I'm changing/adjusting whilst I can access it all a bit better. I'd post some pics but it all looks a bit horrific at the moment with so much stuff missing
I'm not going to rush it back onto the road for the sake of making it to shows so she'll just be back whenever she's ready

Glad you're sticking with it, Wayne. I think once the engine's back together and you've changed to a proper inlet, you're going to be there finally! Have yiy got a single piece inlet now?
