Just Lowered and Getting Bad Rubbing! UPDATE!

Postby MrRS1800 on Tue Dec 20, 2005 9:04 pm

UPDATE:
Following on from below, i went and checked the part numbers on the suspension last night, only to discover that ive been sent the wrong kit!!!! Ive got the 60mm kit when i asked for the 35mm!! No wonder its rubbing!! Thats from a company called soundsperformance on ebay, so beware! I dont know whats going to happen now, have contacted them so ill see what they come back at me with. Cheers for all your ideas tho guys!

Just lowered my RS1800 by 35mm using a GMax shock and spring kit. The cars got 15 inch rims with 195/45 tyres.

Thought everything would be fine but im getting some mega rubbing on the front. Has anyone else experianced this?

The car seems very low for just a 35 drop, wasnt expecting it to be this low. Im hoping its just on the arches which i will attempt to roll tommorow! Also it seems lower at the front then the rear... hmmm

Did you buy the suspenions new or 2nd hand?
Its possible you have the wrong ones, either Mk3 or Mk3.5 as am led to believe there different.

Try and find out what its catching on

Fact : Did you know the Rs 1800 is lower than a standard 1.1 fiesta :D

Im not sure how much lower but if you lowered 35mm using gmax then technically your car may be 45mm lower than the standard fiesta.

So either get arches modified or try a set of spacers.

One last thing - dont fully load the car with people then go over speed bumps. Thats the quickest way to ruin the exhaust.

how the hell do you get scrubbing, mine's lowered about 45-50mm front on 195/50/15 tyres and it doesn't scrub at all.

i know my problem will be because i have 50's on need 45 just bit strange that it only rubs on one side. How ever r_bowdidge has 45's on so i cant see why he's getting troubles. I have noticed that the Gmax suspention aint that hard still got some roll to it. did you get the 35mm kit or 30mm?

I didnt get a chance to roll the arches today, i had a look tho and from what i can tell its just catching the lip of the arch. I think its because my alloys suck eggs and have got the wrong offset, there fore sticking out too much. Im going to take a dremel to it tommoro becuase ill have to cut the plastic bit of the arch away before rolling the metal back.

P.S its a Gmax 35mm kit.

I used gmax 35mm lowerin springs with 185/55/15 tyres and they dont catch at all apart from on full lock. Im only running on the escort gti wheels though so are prob not as wide as most.

Seems odd, mine lowered slightly more on a 35mm spax kit and I am have no problems, with that my shocks are very hard so don't bounce around too much.

Yer i thought it looked a bit low too. Im wondering if ive been sent the wrong springs or shocks for the front now!!?? I was expecting the front to be about the same as the rear.

this mite not be the problem.. but i would deffinately reccomend doing it even if it doesnt solve it... there is a rubber donut between the top of the suspesion strut and the suspension mounting area on the front. Mine looked lower at the front and I changed these because mine were pretty worn. It raised the suspension up about 8-10mm.... and improved the steering feel of the car aswell...

Ive just been outside rolling the arches as best i can. Took it for another spin and its still rubbing just as bad as before. I think its time to take it to a bodyshop and get them to look at it. Anyone know of a decent one near Romford, Essex???
