judder under braking

judder under braking
my si has developed an annoying judder under braking, it is obviously more noticeable de-celerating from high speeds, but it does it at low speeds as well. i suspected the discs and pads were knackered, but i've looked at them, and the discs aren't warped, and the front pads and rear shoes have loads of life left in them.
my tracking isn't out, as that was done recently, so i am now confused as to what the problem is ? can anyone help??
cheers

i assumed that an uneven surface on the disc would indicate a knackered disc, but mine are perfectly smooth, but grooves or ridges etc.
could the handbrake be a factor then, if so, in what respect ?
cheers

no the surface of the disks won't be rough or anything in any way, the disks will be warped through the repeated heat thats put through them when braking. you can't see it by eye. new set of disks i think is called for.

bugger, that isn't good if it is new discs, i only replaced them 12months ago, and i was told to bed them in gently for first 1000 miles or so, which i did, and i've still managed to warp them (possibly). will thepads need replacing too, as they have loads of friction pad left.
where do i get hold of a dial guage, and how do you use it to check the disc condition
cheers for help so far guys

i thought they lasted a tad longer than that though !!!! although i have done about 15k in the last year or so, so i suppose it should be expected !!!
i mite change discs, pads and replace the brake fluid as well, just to be sure !!
