Is it illegal to sell a car vin number and V5C??
OK, I'm not after any lectures about rights and wrongs I just want to know if it is actually illegal to re-sell a car vin number, plate and V5C when the rest of the car has been cut up and weighed in.

Its actually not illegal as such although the DVLA are within their rights to register as "scrapped" any V5's they see for sale without a vehicle. It only becomes illegal when you try to put the id onto another vehicle.

Can you hear me now? Hear you, I can see you, ya dick

Don't people re-shell cars? I got told by an mot tester that's the best option when I wanted to put number plates from my old fiesta I scrapped on my current fez...
Weld the chassis number in place of mine, put no. plates on, change engine number on v5c, and cc, fuel etc, tax, mot and then inform insurance company of the changes?
I couldn't be bothered to do it anyway... But i'm sure you can legally do it?

You can re shell a car but the only way you can keep the cars origional ID is to buy a BRAND NEW UNSTAMPED UNREGISTERED shell from the likes of ford and is will have to have a VOSA (or whatever its called) vehicle check. You have to use a certain percentage of the cars origional parts also. You can't just buy a 1.1 Fiesta, put your RST enigne and number plates on and keep it as an RST
