Guide: fitting Granada chrome doorhandles

Postby Jur on Sun Oct 24, 2004 6:59 pm

Hi,

to add some more *(insert ghey rap term)* to my car i decided to try and modify my doorhandles to Granada (Mk3??) chrome doorhandles.

Well .. after some thinking and trying .. it worked..

First of all .. the Granada Mechanism works exactly the opposite to the Fiesta MK3 mechanism.

The fiesta pushes down a rod.. to open the door
The Granada handle pulls up a rodd to open the door

This was the first challenge

by drilling a hole in the opposite side.. of the mechanism .. it now pushes down the rod.

But.. how to get in this HUGE mechanism:
Well .. ehhm take a grinding tool (multi tool .. or 'dremel' )
and grind away a small piece of metal .. just like in the granada (but mirrored .. cause we use the left handle .. on the right side.. and vice versa)

Now all you have to do is bend a new rod of stong material..
and ehhm find out how long it has to be :-p

I used a Granada Chrome door handle, but this handle was also used on:
Fiesta MK1 (Black .. and Chromed on the Ghia)
Escort MK3( all black)
and i guess other fords of that age..

But today.. a day after i fixed the rod.. at a ford meeting someone told me he had the same type of handle on the backdoor of his Escort MK5 VAN ?????

I've taken a look.. and it IS metal .. and it HAS the same mechanism of the MK3 fiesta.. The only thing is.. it's black...

So if you want chromed the easy way .. but not on plastic..
Buy those handles (both left and right) and have them chromed..

Here are some pics of my mod..
