Getting a motorcycle licence...
It seems the law changed in Jan 2013 and now I don't have a clue what to do.
Finally got my arse in gear and decided to look at a bike licence. From what I can gather I can only ride a 125cc for 2 years (A2) licence. After the two years I can apply for an A1 licence (another test) etc. Is this correct? I understand CBT is a must. All the websites ive read seem very confusing and have conflicting articles on what is what.
I'm 33 and held a car licence since Sept 1997. Anyone able to tell me whats what?

Ether way have to do a cbt first part being the theory. Instead of going up in steps you can do direct access which allows you to ride bigger bikes from the get go. Google direct access

I'd take it a stage at a time Si - I know you ride a lot already but in your shoes I'd want to run round on something smaller for a while to get used to the dynamics of a bike, especially in traffic.
Once you're comfortable and confident then sure, direct access just for the flexibility in purchasing later on but I wouldn't treat that as a first port of call.

Nothing to see here...

I would do the cbt first and ride around on a 125cc bike first... Get some experience then do your full access license!!! Once you get confident on that you will want more power

As you are over 25, you need to do the cbt, then you can do direct access which means you can ride anything!!

Cheers chaps.
CBT > Direct access then a 400 will do me nicely it seems. I'll potter about on the old boys vespa for a bit first though I think.
THe missus is threatening to leave me if I get bike. I'll miss her.

Currently really enjoying the Vespa. Not the same as a geared bike but a good start to learn your craft. She loves super unleaded too! Such a difference in response! Actually had 70mph out of it Monday night. It was slightly down hill and the wind behind me but still, great fun!
I know when the right bike comes along I'll snap it up!
