Gaz Coilovers Setting
Hi All
just fitted a second hand set of Gaz Coilovers that are rebound and dampening adjustable, and took it up the road to see what it felt like and it was awful , really wobbly and no feeling through the steering wheel , now i know i shouldn't have expected any less but i was just asking if anyone knows what the best setup adjustment is to use ?
iv'e spoken with Gaz HQ who told me before i lower it and get it level all round , which i may be able to do with corner weights , i should set rear shocks back to 0 ( anti clockwise & most rebound ) and give it 12 clicks for road and track use , then do the fronts back to 0 but then one full clockwise revolution and then 1/4 turns until the front raises back up slowly ??
anyone used these Gaz coilovers and found a good setting ? any info really would help ?
thanks,

Re: Gaz Coilovers Setting
what i done with my avos, was count the amount of threads below the spring platform, i set them all the same, and it was spot on first time so locked it up and its still set there now.
as for hardness, as you have been told, i took it back to zero, then clicked them round to a set number and tested it, again, felt right first time so never changed them

Re: Gaz Coilovers Setting
I did the same with my avo coilovers. I set them all to the same height, fitted them on the car, adjusted them all exactly the same amount on the backs, and fronts, measured the car in a few different locations to make sure it was the same height and that was that.
Damping wise, I have left my rears on the softest setting. Anything other than that and the ride is like most aftermarket shocks and springs - choppy, harsh and s**t as they are bumb adjustment. The fronts I believe have a couple of turns on them just to stop them bouncing as they are rebound damping adjustments and they now just rise up at a good fast pace but dont go back down again kinda thing.
They are good for road and track use. Used them on both.
If I was you, get them up so the car isnt decked, but has an inch or so gap all round to allow for any movement in the car while you test it. Set all the settings to 0 so its soft as possible. Then drive it. If any adjustments need doing, do them, drive it again... do that until the ride is good - by good I mean smooth and not choppy, and no srubbing. Then start lowering. It make take some trial and error getting it to the hight you want and then once its been lowered, you may need to adjust the damper settings, might just need one click/turn to stiffen it up slightly.
My car is pretty low, and I get minimal scrubbing

Re: Gaz Coilovers Setting
Hi guys
Cheers for your advice , i managed to sort the suspension on saturday. although it was not a straightforward task due to one little grub screw......... baxtered grub screw
anyways how i did it was measured the gap on the front left side from the bottom of the arch to the top of the wheel and then put that measurement on the shock leg and wound down the spring seat to match took it of and was sorted
, then i moved onto the drivers side and this is what took me an extra 2-3 hours as the grub screw in the spring seat was properly and i mean fudgekin properly seized in there , after trying everything to get it out with the suspension on the car ( even blowtourching it to loosen up ) me n my mate decided i had to take the leg of and strip it to have a better chance at getting it out , after 2 hours of breaking drill pices at another neighbours who has an engineering workshop for his cupra R race car we drilled a new hole and tapped and died it. Done lol.
front was sorted and the back took ten mins to sort all nice and level , but still had to sort out the rebound and dampening settings, so i put the back at 12 clicks ann the front at one and a quater revolutions , took it up the road and it was scrapping , so set the back at 15 clicks and the fronts at 3 full turns clockwise. backs now not scrapping but front is very slightly, gonna pull the arches back a bit as i think i can see where its rubbing.
any way heres some pics

Nice and low
Damping settings will take some time to get right.
You may need to trim the arches a bit, they might be catching on the edge of the tyres.

yeah no major , what would you advise ? cutting arch lips out a little or bending them back ? obviously paint lips after to protect

Re: Gaz Coilovers Setting
It might be best to give them a trim, they are only plastic
You might be able to see where its rubbing if you take the wheels off, will give you an idea of the area to trim back

Re: Gaz Coilovers Setting
i dont think its the plastic bit that is actually rubbing its the metal arch they are bolted to on the front bit of the wheel ? im gonna have to have a look , i think it may be the plastic inner arches as well , its doesnt all sit prefect as the cars front slam pannel is a bit bent from a previous owner knocking it
i think !

Re: Gaz Coilovers Setting
If its the metal bit, bend that out the way, use a rubber mallet. You may need to heat it up slightly with a heat gun/hair dryer to avoid cracking the paint

Sounds good!
Not sure about FITP this year, lack of job and money is holding me back.
