FRST Braking Noise! (old skool mechanical ABS)

Postby nick.king on Sat Jan 08, 2005 2:43 am

Hello again,

Another problem I'm having with my FRST.... not sure where to start with this one.

The problem seems to occur when I'm braking heavily on slip roads after a run on the motorway or dual carriageway, it doesn't seem to occur driving around town. I can't exactly describe the noise but it sounds like a mix of the exhaust blowing, backfiring, knocking, vibrating, or someone tied a bucket to the underside of my car! It doesn't affect the performance of the brakes in anyway. It can go on for about 10 seconds until I release the brake pedal then it slowly dies away.

It feels like it's coming from directly underneath the drivers footwell.

Sorry for the vauge details but I can't really describe it!

In case this helps I've got a full stainless steel magnex exhaust front to back, koni adjustables all around, the car has the old skool mechanical abs, baileys dump valve and a k&n induction kit, other than this the car is totally standard.

I've checked the discs and pads and they are fine.

I did notice when checking out my knackered alternator that my gearbox mountings have split and there is quite a lot of movement. These are due to be replaced in the morning so we'll see if that helps.

Again any advice is more than welcome.

Cheers,

Nick.

Ok it was..........................

Magnex exhaust, front pipe was banging on the front suspension support and the flexi part joining the front pipe to the middle section was split!

It's now fixed and flys like a good 'un.

I'm wanting £2500, not sure how much it's worth but you aren't the first to say it's worth more.

It's an ace car, driving it to work this morning I kept thinking I want to keep it........ but family comes first and it's got to go :(

Gutted because I've only just got it to how I want it, both with looks and how it runs :(

How about you send me some pics of your white one (my brother-in-law wants one) and he buys that and you buy mine :)
