moondustka :
jayrs :some excellent work there mate :Q
are you planning anything for added cooling to the rad? holes/grill in bumper?

Going to see how it goes.. I'm sure I'll have to end up doing something, but will try it first. People have cored holes above the number place in a line. I was thinking (just an idea) of placing the standard ka grille, which has lots of round holes to it as a template and marking which holes I want to drill. It might be more discreet. On the other hand it could look terrible

yeah i see whare ya coming from.
get a photoshop knocked up mate, or another bumper from scrappy for testing on or something

I was a right herm on the weekend mate, that's how I got the time! I can explain how my weekend went: Friday night - worked on it 7 till half 11. Sat - went to birmingham and back to collect my brothers FRS lump, started about half 6 ish till 3 am! Sunday - half 10, to about 11

Very sad indeed.. but on the up hand it got the fabrication done :D

I was hoping to get this to classic ford at santa pod. Not sure it can be done though! I might just have it out on the drive working by then, but it'll need a bit of mapping! Which i could be waiting for! (Edit) just thought - I'll have to wait for all the boost pipes! :(

Thanks everyone - I'm itching to get this done - especially as the weather is more consistently dry!

amazing bit of fabricating going on there :)
take my hat of to you making it all fit in nicely.

i think the rad will give issues if the top is only 10% showing and bottom has intercooler in the way.
also see that cutting bumper will make it look toss and lose the sleeper aspect about it.

You may find the fan would stay on alot longer

Thanks :) The original Ka radiator I used for the FRST lump and only the top left ever showed through the grille (we're talking 200mm by 50 at most) and never had any cooling problems with that, so hoping I might get away with this!

Small update!

Small 'post' with m6 thread for centre bumper mounting point

Image

I've got 1 last bit of fabrication! My brother and I have found that the original bonnet catch can fit and so making up mountings for it :Q No bonnet pins! (which would ruin the look of the car, as it doesn't look track like at all!)

Image

Image

You might also have noticed that I've filled the radiator mounting holes. This is because I have designed and given drawings to pro alloy for a custom one! :Q

This was after I bought a brand new pattern XR2 rad and found that it's slightly different and didn't fit!! So I decided to spend more money I haven't got and do it properly :D

Some more work - I'm loving the fitting of the bonnet catch, even if I say so myself

Image

Image

Image

All 3 mounting points done:

Image

Had to re-arrange the bonnet latch to make it drop into catch properly without hitting the bar..

Image

Image

And grinded off a bit

Image

Sorted that problem! :D

More and more :)

Tidying up the ends (need some seam sealer)

Image

Filled the back behind the bars with weld, was pretty difficult as the gap was massive!

Other side

I let myself loose with the filler again!

Out came some sand paper :) and this is how it stands now (until tomorrow  )

Little more progress today..

Had a slight issue with the bonnet.. I hadn't aligned it properly  and when I put the headlights and bumper on it was way out. So aligned it and then the bonnet hook was in the wrong place. So had to re-mount it, move it back further and put a plate underneath as it also needed to be longer (because I'd moved it back). It's not quite right still, but does the job and catches nicely - just the hook is on the piss so as not to pull the bonnet out of alignment when it shuts! Sodding thing! Will sort it another time I think  possibly when I get a new bonnet at some point!

Image

Started with the seam sealer :D Got lots of small areas for water to creep in/rust to build up so best to get this stuff on!

Image

And now some acid etch primer! I know this isn't really the proper way of doing things as I haven't taken the engine out. I can just about get to everywhere

Image

Unfortunately, it has reacted in a few places so got to sort that out. And some filler areas need some knifing putty really. But at least I can see how it taking shape now :)

good work mate, but surly doing the bonnet catch now at this stage will be better than leaving it?
if the catch is out to one side, you might get a tendancy for the bonnet to lift the other side while at speed..?? not saying it will but just a thought

It's the hook that's out ;) The bonnet catch is fine. It shuts perfectly, just the hook isn't quite straight to the bonnet. But I see what you're saying. The catch isn't in the middle of the bonnet standard. I've put it back exactly where ford orignally had it but it's further back towards the bulk head by about 10mm. All that's wrong with it, is that that hook on the bonnet I've managed to weld a few mm to the right of where it needs to be. So it only needs sorting on the bonnet itself :)

I could wipe the floor with a standard WRX with the FRST lump ;) I remember the time one had a go with me twice and lost badly on both accounts. We both pulled up to set of traffic lights after and I've never seen anyone concentrating forward so much

:) should be ok then. All I've got to do better is the hook on the bonnet!

The car is all painted in satin black now also :D So onwards to fitting everything the engine needs to run. Fingers crossed this one is ok!

 Sorry I worded that wrong! Pics follow...

Small bit of progress - Unfortunately I forgot to cover the arch liners, good thing they're completely covered.

Image

Image

Some people don't like satin black, but it's easy to touch in when it gets chipped, which it will cos I'll always be working on it!

Image

Then I cleaned it all :)

Image

Fitted a 2.0 N/A blacktop thermostat housing as it has sensor positions (Focus RS has none!)
