Focus RS conversion for the Ka! - (Update: 21/01/11 - RR!)
Re: Focus RS conversion for the Ka! - RR results :) (07/06/10)
Some nice results there, was actually looking at a ka today to do a 2.0 conversion, but the rust was too bad

excellent mate!
shame about the clutch, but you can get it lined which is cheaper than buying a brand new one

Re: Focus RS conversion for the Ka! - IT RUNS! (26/05/10)
im guessing speed bumps are out the question
Totd are really good. They have done my Rs twice on the rolling road and both times got it running spot on and cured all my problems.
I take my hat off to you for taking up the challange of getting such a monsterous engine into a tiny ka bay.
When i saw a cvh turbo lump in the bay i was shocked. this is amazing to see
would love to be there to see a cocky bmw driver when you and your ka wastes it on a straight

I must say that is exactly why I do this, not only cos the Ka handles well and it's light, still feels relatively modern inside, but for that. It's just the look on someone's face when my girls car comes out of nowhere
Not sure whether this 4 paddle is up to the job, but the only way up in 220mm clutches is a custom job
Thanks for all the comments!! Although I'll definitely be putting up some pictures when the boost hoses are done..
It looks tired from the photos already and I've only just built it!! Just of question of slowly going round it and replacing rusty bolts etc etc.
Speed bumps are actually not too bad!! I've been over those nasty black and yellow ones, you now the ones that are like blocks put together and really short..
The boost pipe underneath is the lowest - just slightly higher than the lower arm casings but of course further from the wheel!!
Also, anyone have any ideas of how to keep boost hoses and water hoses together if you don't have a tube beading tool! (they're sooo expensive!)

Re: Focus RS conversion for the Ka! - RR results :) (07/06/10)
get some 888s on the front of it mate
and the only clutch that will stand a chance is the helix 4 paddle with the extra heavy duty cover ! been there done that lol before i went to the mtx
i have the part nom if you need it .
p-s its the torque the zetec makes that kills the clutch when loading it up low down on the rollers or out mapping ect.
300hp in that will be very quick off the line with the 888s!! sub 5sec's to 60mph and 12s on the 1/4 mile easy but the box will never last long
beast of a car good luck with it.

Going to sort out the R888s on another set of wheels when funds allow..
How much is that Helix 4 paddle (Is it this: Series Part No. 77-2000 on their website)? is it 220mm? and why's it better than the AP one?
My box should be fine I reckon.. I can't see it breaking?? well hopefully. Quaife ATB, ST150 1-4th. !st and 2nd gears of those are shot penned also I'm led to believe!
Cheers for the info mate!!

Aren't the CV joints the weakest link?

Mine is hydraulic..
Crazy uses the mtx box which means he muct be using a hydraulic clutch - but obviously not sure about before when he was using these clutches.

Re: Focus RS conversion for the Ka! - RR results :) (07/06/10)
little update..
had a porblem with the water system where the pump was pumping water into the header tank and moving the air to the top rad hose! I did get to bottom of it eventually..
Started by replacing this t piece with larger outlet to water pump..

to this..

That didn't have much effect, so thought I hadn't got the expansion pipes right as there is an extra one on the FRS, so got the rad out and got an outlet welded on the corner!

back apart again..

But that didn't sort it either! Then I realised the only thing that's different is the header tank is plumbed separately all the way to the bottom rad hose.. Did that and all was ok
Made it bloody tight here though! But a p clip later and it's fine..

Cleaned up the rocker cover and replaced the bolts for stainless steel
I've got a stainless steel bug now and I'm slowly replacing all the bolts

Also had this package arrive

And started to fit them.. Few more to arrive yet to complete it

Re-doing the expansion hoses too so more pics to follow and boost system should be finished tomorrow

Re: Focus RS conversion for the Ka! - (Update: 18/06/10)
the update is after all his hard work bens treated himself to a break so 2 weeks in spain!
the car should be at ford fair on the ka klub stand and will certainly attract a few looks.
the second focus rs ka is also made and running so there is 2 in the family. his brothers was mapped at 260brake and is just as good.
ill let ben update when he is back.

Cheers Dave!
Well I couldn't update for ages as photobucket said I'd exceeded the bandwidth
rubbish..
Here goes - pics tell the story
Air filter really isn't as red as that - dodgy picture!

Expansion hoes re-done..

Heat wrapped downpipe

Painted coilpack bracket

Painted this standard heatshield, fitted it but didn't like it - it was bent and tried to get it back but just didnt look right!

I then decided I wasn't happy with the paint under the scuttle panel and the turrets..

Painted and started putting back together:

I then found some holes!! There were more but no pics
so the whole car went to the bodyshop while I was away and is still there now..

Next update will be after Ford Fair - I'll have Friday night and Sat to put both bumpers on, waxoil behind them, put a rear door card on, the rear seats, get 2 new tyres fitted - tracking done and any last minute preps before Sunday!

Gearbox is Ka IB5
Flywheel is 1.8 Zetec
Clutch is Fiesta RS turbo 4 paddle (AP one, but it's crap for this power)
Release bearing is Ka
Shafts are standard 1.3, CV joints seems to be ok! Drivers side shaft just has the weight on it
