Fitting mk3.5 AVO Coilovers to mk3 Fiesta
Hello, I have searched the forum loads but couldn't find allot, most info is about putting mk3 hubs on a mk3.5...
I have some mk3.5 hub knuckles that i want to fit to my mk3 Fiesta so I can fit my mk3.5 AVO's, however the mk3 lower ball joint is too big to fit in the mk3.5 hole, the CV splines in the mk3.5 hub are bigger than the mk3 ones, and the bearings are bigger inner and outer diameter!! so my mk3 hub wont fit in the mk3.5 bearings and the mk3 bearings wont fit in the mk3.5 hub knuckle!!
What does everyone think? should I just mill the mk3 shock hole (43.8mm) in the hub knuckles out to 45.5mm? as i cant be bothered to mess around swapping everything over...
What a pain in the arse!!!

Yeah I think I read your topic mate...
If you want to do it properly you would need as far as I'm aware:
mk3 hub knuckles with bearings and hub
mk3 complete drive shafts 1.8d ones are a heavier duty i think...
mk3 bottom ball joint
mk3 track rod end
I read someone used spacers to get mk3 shocks in mk3.5 hubs lol, I would use steel spacers and tack them to the shock for added safety...
I 'm not going to change my drive train components to mk3.5 parts just so I can fit my coilovers, instead on Monday I will get Talon engineering (local to me) to mill my mk3 hubs to 45.5mm...
I don't care if it makes it a bit weaker lol not much I'm sure

I cant remeber how he did it, but my cousin made up a spacer or something to get them t fit, what exactly stops them fitting in the hubs ?

So to fit a set of mk3's in 3.5 hubs all you need is a spacer ring making up, pretty easy tbh

Metal shim around the shock to take up the extra diamieter(sp?)slack in the mk3.5 hub with the mk3 shock fitted.
I myself have managed to fit mk3 shocks in 3.5hubs safely and checked out many times by various garages, used on the track and for over a year with no problems. Although nobody likes to hear me say that I did it

Not sure, should just be able to wrap it around the shock and bolt in as normal.
I didnt use a shim.

A spacer is a viable option, any decent fabricator/engineer could knock them up for not a lot of cash

Yeah, spacer rings ain't that bad!! I have seen some horrendous cars driving on our roads lol!! but as I said if I were using them i would use steel ones and weld them (tack/stitch) to the shock...
As for me I have given my hub knuckles to Talon Engineering to bore out my shock holes to 45.5mm, I will fit my AVO's tomorrow and take some pics...
Moral of the story? = Buy the right shocks for your car in the first place!! lol
I will add a project thread soon as I have been meaning to do so since I started my cars build, and im pretty much done now lol
