Rang you yesterday to get a quote on my new BMW, was told I can't be insured as it's rear-drive. :-?

Not one other insurance company I rang (and I rang loads) had the same stance.

I give up.

funny thing is, I added my missus to the policy that I took out and it went down by £100 - she's been driving less than 6 months!

Simply because there are people who do qualify. Naturally those who don't will moan on a forum. Consider that only a few are moaning compared with the thousands of members.

im sorry to ask tim, but whats this "qualify" all about?
i understand reasons suck as age restrictions and all that, but use me for example, i live on the isle of wight where crime is low, i have limited milage (7K yet ill do about 500miles a year), the car is garaged, got alarms, immobiliser, ok its modded, body and engine but nothing major really, im 30 years old, married, kids, full NCB, no accidents, i have 3 points for speeding, i have more than 1 car in my house hold, i have access to other cars, and not once has your company been able to get close to the quotes i get else where let alone beat one :-? and its not like its £50 out, were talking about £200-£300 more, and i only pay about £300 fully comp with agreed value of £5500

what am i lacking to "qualify" for the savings you/your company boast about :-?
please dont think im having a pop, cos im not, its a honest question as i would really love to know, and your company isnt the only one that boast of savings yet cant get close to what i pay

also, whats the deal with chris and not being able to be insured because its rear wheel drive? ive never come across such thing in my life

We don't specialise in Agreed Value policies so that may be it but without knowing all your details, it's hard for me to say why re the 'qualify' bit.

RWD vehicles have been disastrous for the insurers in terms of claims. We had a massive scheme for one forum on thier RWD cars but it's been pulled due to the fact that people were crashing them all over the place!

Hi Nomad
I've missed you! But as per normal you're changing what i said!!!
We do insure RWD cars but there has to be an experience factor. We just culled a RWD forum as there were too many claims by the members on there.

You of course as per usual for your goodself decided i was saying something else!

tbh I didnt really read your reply, I was going on what Chris said above, he rang and was told you don't insure rwd cars. So that kinda implies you don't insure rwd cars at all, does it not.

Will you insure a smart car?

didnt get round to asking for agreed value tim :oooh:

its due to renewal in jan so i'll prob call up, mind you if you dont do agreed value its not worth me calling

on a slightly different note, my run around is a escort 1.6lx P reg, completely standard, so i may call about this, but one question with it though, all my NCB is on my RS, would i start with nothing with your company or would they give me X amount as i have full NCB else where?
only ask as i know some places give you a X% discount if you have full NCB tied up on another car

I was told they don't insure rear-drive cars, no mention of "experience factor" or whatever. I said BMW and they said no!

Hi
There has been a lot of talk about people being charged for putting winter tyres on their cars.

Can I just say to save any uncertainty we will not charge for anyone doing this though you do have to notify us if you add them?

May I also wish you all a very Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year.

After a strange few months of changing criteria and shifting patterns in the insurance market, January for us, in terms of business, surpassed January 2010 (before all these changes took place) showing that the current scheme seems to be working rather well!

So, please feel free to ring us if your car (or home) insurance is due in the next few weeks!
