[I think they're using actual reported figures from the cars - the Mondeo ST200 when rolling roaded by owners was somewhere between 185 to 195bhp. It's publicly doubted that it was ever close to the 200bhp that the 200 represents.

However, when looking at the rolling road reports for the ST220 the engines all appear to be alot higher on both power and torque figures than the quoted figures - which is nice

I still won't buy one though!

Yeah, either FF or PF featured the ST owners club on the rollers a few mags back - the ST200's were much closer than that, all about 195-199bhp, and as you say the ST220's were all well over - the one with the least power got 232bhp iirc This doesn't clear up what the mag meant though - they said a 2.5V6 with 217 bhp - i can't think what that applies to - the 2.5 has never had that much power...

Did you see the mag i'm talking about? If so do you remember how much better the 220's power curve was than the 200's? Awesome charts The owners were advised not to chip or they'd lose power!

230bhp is all just for publicity (however that figure would be nice, and i suppose its fair to say there's always a possibility)

I predict 180-200bhp for the RS, lets face it theres also the important factor of Torque and that can make a huge difference! And dont forget they are apparnetly leaving the engine open for tuners... roll on Van Aaken and others!

The report regarding the the Fiesta ST being 1-2 seconds behind the FRS is true, there is now a report on the Ford website here:

As Gaz said, I really do think people will be very suprised at just how good the Fiesta ST is at 150bhp, with its top quality handling etc.... just wait till the RS!!!!!

The Ford 'true' Sports range is definately coming back! however this time Ithey've got it spot on with the affordable zetec-s range (luke-warm) the Sports Technologies (Fiesta ST - Hot hatch) and the True rallye style sports range of the RS!

Cheers Jim And Andy Yes, 230bhp is publicity - but not a leak by Ford. As i've mentioned before it's the magazines printing things which sell copies, to which Ford don't mind as it generates publicity for the car despite the information being inaccurate.

They may have been having a guess along the lines of a 'tuning pack' USA style, where you buy the car with a normal BHP, but can then boost it up with factory options which retain the full warranty. Whether this idea will ever be tried in the UK is undecided at present.

Regardless of what it's power is, the RS is being developed to beat it's rivals - and it will. The Ford GT was designed to beat the Ferrari 360 CS - and it does. The Fiesta RS will not be slow, nor will it be bland like the clio 182, or an incomplete package like the pug 180.

The ST is very quick - and was much closer to the FRS on that track than's been let on in the press release This is however, just on this track - it's usually naturally slower than the Focus.

The ST will surprise people - as long as they give it a chance, and don't start talking it down for no reason before driving one, which has seemed to have happened a few times - strange for a Ford/Fiesta site. It's an affordable high performance car with a good spec. I'm looking forward to the launch and seeing the cars out on the road - it's nice seeing projects that have been worked hard on for a long time coming out into production.
