If you've got MK3.5 subframes in your MK4/5 you really need a MK3.5 carpet as well as otherwise it looks a real bodge job as you need to cut the carpet so the subframes can fit in.
I've fitted a MK5 carpet in my MK3.5 as where I had cut the carpet to get the MK5 seats it didn't look quite right.

I think that you just need to drill out the thread and put the 3.5 guides on the seats.
