fiend :Why are you keeping the cat?

i bought the engine complete with all the hoses , rad, cat, hego , fuel filter etc.

i thought the engine had to run a hego to run correctly ?
the hego i got is in the cat convertor :-?

No cat and no egr are required It will run just fine - one thing which is very important to use is the lamda sensor in the exhaust though ive got a 4 branch manifold on mine and the lamda screws into that, im not sure where it goes on the standard mondeo system though?

Gareth.

what manifold is it? they still for sale new and how much? :D

im eagerly after a four branch, appearently they let the engine rev much more freely, without it screaming at you for mercy

jayrs :on the mondeo its on the down pipe.

lambda sensor shouls have a square fitting, like the sort used for the front spot lamps on the rs
4 wires, 2 white, 1 grey 1 black

ill second that, was trying to remove the lambda off a mondeo the otherdsay in a yard, bloody thing was seized in

Jony - Im not sure tbh chap - When i done my conversion i bought a 16v mk3.5 si as a donar car as i needed the usual bits off of it but it also had some nice extras on it like the 4 branch. I hav'nt a clue what the manufacture is, its not stainless & i cant comment on any performance increase because my zetec has never been run with the oe cast manifold - i cant imagine theres a huge difference in performance though?

ebay - there is a seller on ebay doing them for a pretty good price.

ive bought a cosworth external fuel pump off ebay for £54
ive got 4 meters of 8mm fuel pipe which is going to be used as the feed pipe under the car. As the 1.1 carb 6mm feed is not good enough for a EFi.
Now ive finished the Other Rs i will be beginning to strip out the 1.1 very soon

xr2 shocks are being sourced soon with a 35mm lowering spring kit.

today i bring a big update
bit of a stressful encounter fitting bigger wheels. Every car i fit bigger wheels to always has rubbing issues.
This mk2 was no different

Got hold of some mk1 mondeo 15 inch steels for £50 off a nice chap on xrtwo.com, then today had 4 fresh p6000 tyres fitted as the mondeo tyres were too big and bald.

Image
Image
Image
Image

This is how its started out on 13's
Not my cup of tea & very scary around bends. Plenty of roll to say the least :oooh:

Image
Image
Comparing the two...
I went for 195/50/15 because i still want some ride comfort and 45 profiles in my past experiance are a harsher ride. Also

i want the car still to look standard with normal looking tyres.

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

The end result.
I had to space the front wheels out with 5mm spacers to clear the side wall of the tyres off the shock strut. Their is

slight rubbing on front inner wing on full lock but im going to find a steering rack limiter to cure that issue :)

The rears is where the trouble was.
the rear trailing arms which connect from the chasis to the rear beam were touching the inner side wall of tyre. It took 10mm spacers on rear to give it a 5mm gap between tyre and trailing arm.
I didnt require longer bolts as i had over 9 whole turns before it got tight

the mondeo wheels are 6J offset and i think they might be et40 from the problems ive encountered.

Other than that
on the plus side - car handles 100% better. Elliminated excessive body roll caused by the other wheels.
cant wait to fit the fiesta St front brake setup ive got sitting around and the xr2 shocks and springs and brake servo/master cylinder.

comments welcome

Clark :)

That does look good but i see troubles ahead when you lower it now.

50's will rub badly i think.

Ive got 45's on my mk2 and even they rub a little im afraid. Also im not sure if your aware but when you lower the rear of a mk2, because of the panhard rod which connects the two side of the rear axel the drivers side rear wheel is brought in closer to the inside of the car, how much is dependant on the amount of lowering but it will exasperate the problem of the inside of the tyre touching the inside arch. You can get adjustable rods off xrtwo.com and you then adjust it to suit. It may not come to that but i know mine could do with the adjustable rod because ive had to currently fit 5mm spacers to my rear wheels purely because the drivers side wheel was rubbing as mentioned above.

also just a question re the st brakes. Do the calipers bolt stright on? or is there some jiggery pokery required?

Gareth.

ive tried to fit the st150 brakes today and ive come accross one problem.
the disc fits perfectly on the hub, then the carrier wont line up with the hub mountings as it rests on the outter edge of the disc. When you remove the disc the carrier mounts perfectly onto the hub with no modification.

The solution to fit these is to simply file down the inner carrier where the disc runs through it. Ive managed today to file 2mm of the carrier to clear the disc and allow it to be bolted upto the hub. i was told not to drill out the hole on the hub to suit as it would be very dangerous if the bolt should come loose and moved .
will get pictures of this tomorrow when i do the other side carrier.

Regarding the 50 profile tyres i have slight rubbing on the rear inner arch when going over harsh bumps or pot holes.
i think lowering will cause more agro so will just settle for its current state.

after you got them springs too :oooh: , mate, ill make up some adjustabel rods once ive finished sorting the workshop and got the cars back in place, then you can lower it down.
dont leave it so high you need a fcuking step ladder to get in it, jesus.

and re the phone calls, build a bench, get a vice and get some decent files

fair comment regarding vice and file but i borrowed a bench from a neighbour so money saved :P

im thinking of spacing out the rears 5mm more to give the inner arch a tad more clearance.
ive got the longer wheel bolts so will experiment :)

Thats interesting, so the actual caliper its self bolts on fine, and the bolt holes are the same dia. as the stnd mk2 ones. I wonder if you can use the mk5 rs2000 discs with these calipers? As looking on xrtwo.com the most common brake upgrade is to use 4x4 cossie calipers with rs2k discs which incodently i tried fitting on the weekend but ive been diddeled as i bought some calipers on the understanding they were the correct ones which in fact they arnt which is great!

st 150 brakes are the best option i think.
cosworth calipers i remember needed spacing away from hub to stop disc rubbing on inner edge.

its a bit of a pain to file but worth it to run the larger discs :D
they fit perfectly without any spacers/washers.

still waiting to get pics but will do this when i fit them

Rs accessory steering rack limiter.
kit consists of 4 couplings
2x circlips
4 x snap rings
2x boot clamps
fitting instructions.

simply attaches on to the track rod where it screws onto the shaft of the rack. Preventing the shaft going all the way in.
Eliminating the wheels rubbing on the inner front arches :aviator:

This was one exspensive bit of kit but worth it in the long run to stop ruining tyres and arches :)
