Complete Doors of a Mk3.5 on a Mk3?

Postby JimD on Wed Aug 13, 2003 9:51 am

Sounds like another amazingly lazy thing to do, but there is a point  :

Are the door cards on a 3.5 the same shape as a Mk3 or are they the curvier type of the Mk4? Also, did some of the cars come with central locking and electric windows?

Is the dash borad any different?

To be honest, I'm in two minds about keeping the car and spending a bit of money on it or just cutting my losses and buying something with plenty (loads) of power, ie. an Escort Cossie :D :aviator:  or plenty of style, ie. (dare I say it) a 406 coupe :o :-?

the door cards are the same!

only advantage you would get is if you got the doors with the c/l e/w and also the mk3.5 mirrors on it as well!

but chances are you would need them to be sprayed to match the car so would work out cheaper to just fit the above if ya aint got them!

the dash in a mk3.5 is the same shape but a much much darker colour (almost black!)

MK3.5 doors have:
- A protection bar (makes it heavier)
- Hole to fit a MK3 as well as a MK3.5 mirror
- nothing else in particulair different..

In my car there is a MK3 and a MK3.5 door .. You must be a genius to see the difference from the outside (-:

If the MK3 door you have right now doesn't have CL/EW fit them yourself.
it's 10x less work then fitting MK3.5 doors (with the changes of wrecking the hinges )-: as i almost did with mine.. the hinge-pins are VERY hard to get out)

CL/EW are pretty straight forward to fit. just some:

- Replacing of the door-mechnisme (that keeps the door closed) with some items with CL on it. (2i, FRST, CLX, RS1800, Si)
- Drilling out the blind rivets of the current Window mechanism
- blind rivetting to fit the new window mechnism
- Bolting of the new Leccy window motor (same place and holes as the standard windows handle mechanism is)
- placing of the loom from the door to the interior..
- placing the 'new' centre console bit..

and if you want .. you can also fit the boot unlocker.. pretty easy..
(needs 1 wire from the front to the back of the car)

If you take the bit's of the scrapyard.. be sure to take with you:

tools:
- Drill
- wrenches
- pliers
- screwdrivers

And take out of the car:
- Loom of the CL/EW/Boot unlocker, incl the wire from front to the back
- Centre console bit with the 3 switches

"boot unlocker"
- Boot unlocker + rods from the boot
- 4 pin-part of te boot
- Loom of inside of the boot
- 4 plate part for the 4 pin-part

"Central Locking and Electric Windows"
- Locks (wich keep the door closed) with CL motors attached
- EW mechanisme
- Loom of CL/EW of the inside of the door
