Can you fit a double mattress in the back of an escort van?

Serious question this as it goes!

I'm going to be living in a van for a bit around the summer, and need to know weather a double mattress will fit if I just sling it in the back!

It should do.

A small double mattress is 4' wide, normal double is 4' 6".

Transit is listed as being 4' 6" between the wheel arches, you'll probably need a lwb one.

You should get some thick foam cut to fit. That would be much better. Easier to clean too.

I've found that the space in an Escort fan is only something like 1046mm between the wheel arches so I'll just get a ratty old single matress - at least I'll have room for my in-van toilet!

I managed to fit a large single (in between a single and double) in the back of my Fiesta with the seats folded down, thats with a rear strut brace too.

Just fold the mattress in half, will fit easy.
