Putting a Zetec loom in my car..
Right, As some of you may or may not know my car doesnt have any electronics. All it came with is PAS!
Ive fitted a boot relase and wired up my driving lights etc but only having one spare +ve connection on the fuse box is a bit of a pain.
To save wiring in an aux fusebox i may as well put a zetec car loom in?
Smo has just done this on his carbed 1.1 so he can stick the zetec engine bit in if he gets a Zetec!
Will putting the car 'half' in my car be an 'easy' job? Easy as in not fiddling around soldering wires etc. I dont mind dismantling my dash.
Ill have a look at my 'car' loom to 'engine' loom plug tomorrow and see what its like. Is this the only place they cross over?
Thanks.

Why would you want to do this Max? My Fiesta Classic came with nothing other than a rear wiper. Using the guide in the guide section I've put Electric windows, Central locking, boot release (electric pack loom is all in one and took about three hours to fit everything) and as you have the later type fez an Si engine loom should just plug straight in. The only mods you will need to make are to earth the temp gauge sender and extend the cooling fan switch wire over to the radiator.

I dont mind taking the dash out, Smo did it.
Id like to have ford fuses for everything, c/l, e/w, fogs, driving lights, boot pop, boot light etc etc.
I dont think i can plug an electric pack loom in?

It just depends how much work you want to put in but in my mind it would be a huge amount of work for no gain at all really as it can all be done in an easier manner. I couldn't just plug an electric pack loom in either. The electric pack loom has it's own plug (which was missing on mine) and it needed wiring up into the fuse box. Doing this will also give you the proper fuses in your fusebox, that is way it worked out in mine anyway. Then it is just a case of bolting in the motors and solenoids, plugging everything in and snap-tieing all the wires up behind the dash. It's down to you though, perhaps you could do a dash removal guide!

What you trying to say?
Dash out isn't a difficult job at all. I've done it a few times now and it gets easier everytime... Just got to think logically about the things that'll stop it coming out:
7 screws
Instrument cluster (can push that through if trying to take it out first is too awkward - but may be it's just me that does that because my speedo cable doesn't come out
A-pillar covers
Loom attached to support bar
A few other wires clipped in various places behind it which you can kind of see when you pull it out a bit
Heater control 3 x 7mm bolts
May be one or two other things, just make sure you don't catch it and scratch it on anything (if you care like I do) and make sure you have both doors open as it makes it a lot easier

That's exactly why I did it. I had made my own loom bits up for the old style electric window switches and stuff, and to be fair, it wasn't a bad job - tried to make it as close to an original loom piece as possible. But changing to the later style electric window switches in the door pockets, I couldn't be arsed making up more wiring and trying to get it all fused properly, so thought the factory fit way was the way to go
I bought an XR2i 16v loom back in March (I think lol) along with the door looms that go with it. Finally decided on Sunday that I was going to fit it, cleaned it all up, made sure I knew exactly where everything went on Monday and fitted it today (well, yesterday). Started up first time
Whether it'll be as easy for you or not, I don't know. I can't see why you can't use, say, an Si loom and do a similar, and probably easier swap. I'd have thought being CFi that it'd even use a 12 pin connector and the wires be like for like? Anyone know? The other thing is the PATS... I know bugger all about PATS, but I assume yours has it? And I have no idea how that ties up with the loom
As for whether you can plug the electric pack loom in yours, take a look to see if there's a plug free around the steering column somewhere... Should imagine it'd be a 6-pin job like mine if there is, but knowing Ford, they probably didn't put it in
If anyone's interested, I started about 10am this morning (or should that be yesterday morning lol) and had the new loom in by 5pm. However, a lot of that time was just making sure everything was going to work, adjusting the position of the rad fan switch (as it was in an odd position in the loom on the 16v loom) and other various double and triple checking. The actual swap itself didn't take too long at all, and putting the new loom in took less than an hour from being a heap on the floor to turning the key and starting it.
I really think it was worth it, just to have all the bits and bobs fitted as Ford would have wired it themselves had they done it, and have all the fuses in the right place, etc.
I write too much

Thanks paul, Its the engine plug thing im worried about really. Will it simple be a straight swap/plug in job?

Ok
I think there should only be one connection between the two, ill try and find it.
I realised earlier that the loom is attached to the bar on the dash, Maybe a bit fiddly to get out.

I know what you mean about wanting all original ford wireing etc. Just go to a scrappy and take all the loom from inside a 16v Si, and all the management, basically every single wire from the car. Then put it all in yours. It'll take time yes, but you'll know it'll all work.
You can use my car when you prise the keys out of my cold dead hands
