Fiesta zetec turbo - now for sale!

Postby cowie20 on Tue Jan 13, 2009 4:55 pm

hey all, most of you already know the car, i got it near end of last year. just cleaned and polished it so thought id take some good pics and start a thread on it as ill be changing some bits here and there.

my plans so far are orignal wing mirrors, differant seats as the ones in it weight a tonne, roll cage, GT25 turbo and some management.

car just now has t2, low comp bottom end, stage 3 head i was told, grs cooler, alloy rad, avo coilovers, cosworth front and rear discs, adjustable bottom arms and cosworth wheels.

suspension is solid and is a seriously rought drive if road isnt flat, which up in aberdeen is never!

fitting the turbo is what am working on just now, need to modify a t3 manifold with a t25 flange, making a elbow for turbo, sorting oil feed/return and some water pipes. also new oil and filter

got all the bits just putting them together. will get pictures of it all tomorrow.

spot on mate, think the cossie rims suit FRST down to a tee! :D

agree with changing the mirrors, id probably go for the Mk3.5 mirrors over the the orginal elephant ears though, other then that I think it looks top.

the seals have started to go on turbo and i wanted to change it. i bouhgt a GT2554r from garrett. so am making it it fit just now but am away offshore on friday so it wont go on for another 3 weeks.

mk3.5 wing mirrors is more than likly what will go on. and yes the steering wheel is being taken off soon as i find a replacement i like. car needs a new steering lock as its broken.

cheers for comments :D

Re: My Fiesta Turbo, building up GT25!

Postby cowie20 on Thu Jan 15, 2009 7:03 pm

right, got all the bits i needed at last from garrett, got a flange to weld onto t3 manifold, once welded had to smooth down edges of hole as the hole is smaller than the t3 hole. made up a exhaust elbow with a lamda sensor plug for management later on.

the exhaust housing on turbo had to be spun round to be same way as a t3, had to modify a bracket for actuator to be mounted.
i also bought a oil return kit from garret which came with a nice thick bit of oil hose. should do trick nicely

the water pipes from t2 fit onto the gt25 but the oil feed wont fit, so i have a adaptor to go into the turbo then using a t3 braided oil feed pipe.

here is some pictures of it all together.

am not offshore till next week so am going to get it fitted on satuarday. just wandering if ill get away with setting boost same as hybrid t2 which is 15psi.

i will take it to tuner once i find one i like.

got the turbo fitted to car, took two days, its not totally finished, got exhaust leaks at down pipe and where downpipe meets exhaust, also oil return has a slight leak, but to get to pipe i have to remove starter and downpipe! to tired to do it.join between downpipe and exhaust is a temp thing as it was all i had

had to remove intercooler and rad and move rad as far forward as it would come, original t2 oil feed was relocated to come over the gearbox and bolted onto new turbo, t2 water hoses fitted onto it also, well once a bit of careful heat and some gentle bending and shaping.

car now doesnt smoke except from heat paint on manifold and some greasy oily hand prints all over exhaust and turbo!

car seems to idle better and got better oil pressure used to sit at 60psi from start up cold, now its 70psi. maybe due to oil/filter change. unsure

turbo has a really loud on spool up, sounds like a jet. going to drive easy for a few days, break turbo in gentle! :D

there is anothe red one going round town, with cossie rims and im sure its a chick that owns it and she used to have a grey one, and have been told she still does, just thought it was maybe same car,

yeah i have owned it just over 2 years, the car was taken off the road so someone could build a 2.0 zvh for it and it never run lol,

i bought it without loking at it being told it was mint, never even tried to get the engine running just took it out and fitted a 1.6 turbo with a few bits n pieces, then decided to tidy it up, removed body kit and spotted th dreded rot, and kept finding it everywhere, almost reshelled but all welding is now finished and it will be pained in a few weeks, the will get it all fitted up, still got a few bits to source, but gettin there

ive done 50 miles so far and been taking it easy the actuator on turbo is only a 8 psi garrett one, but am in middle of getting a -31 to get boost up to a bar as thats where t2 was sitting at. car is hopeless in the rain, just spins even if you try be gentle, paddle clutch a pain!

jay, you said the seal that had gone in my t2 was a cold seal? is that the big o ring seal that seals the compressor housing to the body of turbo?

cheers
