Rear Engined Fiesta mk3
Thought you guys might like a look at my new project, as i now officially have a mk3 ill be using this site a lot more than i used too
Already started a thread on Passionford, makes sense to do one here as well.
My Mk2 is nearly finished now, its got to a stage I iam happy with as ive had it over 2 years now, and its having a photoshoot for Performance Ford magazine in the next few weeks to finish up the project nicely. Its a 2.1 Zetec Turbo on Omex with a T34.63 and a CTS stage 2 + by the way, and ran a 13.6 quarter mile on 0.9 bar.

so doing a resto thread on my new car:

Its got soooo much potential iam so looking forward to turning it into a total monster. however it also needs a lot of work, mainly body wise. Still should keep me tied over
Plan is to put my Zetec Turbo from my XR2 in the back for now, and begin building another engine for the front depending on how well i get on with the rear engined concept
Should be fun! What do people think?

Re: Rear Engined Fiesta mk3
Update:
XR2 had its photoshoot, but the Zetec Turbo engine will be staying in it for a bit longer yet, got a few more plans for more power and a strict diet
For the mk3 i been busy trying to find a good donor XR2i as i decided this was the easiest way to get good panels and a wealth of tiny silly things such as seat belts, door cards, trim as well as important things such as gear linkage, wiring loom, kit etc... so planning to strip this car properly.
Car i bought was a bit of a minter, shame to break it in a way as it drove nicely, the guy i bought it off seemed a bit sad when i said i was stripping it as it turned out he polished it every month
But needs must
Started stripping this today:

And putting the bits onto this, few pics randomly.

Finished pics tomorrow
Also fitted opening rear quarters to let some heat out:

Plan is to put it on Escort Cossie wheels, and leave it looking virtually as it is i.e. A XR2i replica, but for now 13" XR2i wheels will add to the sleeper elelment
More soon :top:

Re: Rear Engined Fiesta mk3
Thanks for the positve comments
There is only 2 twin engined fiestas as far as i know, one a mk1 with 2 EFi RST lumps and the other is Karl Norris' (of infamous NMS) which is a mk1 supposedly running 2 cossie engines, though very very few people have seen it.
All the finishing welding is being done next week, then going body shop start of december and should be out in the new year looking minty. Then I got to decide on engines really, as I am tempted to build one very silly spec Zetec turbo or for the same money build 2 'average' spec engines i.e. Low comps, standard head, T34, OFAB managment live mapped. This will of course be around the 280 mark....times by 2 obviously.
We'll soon see. Should be looking pretty decent by monday as iam doing some work tomorrow. Need some cheap Escort Cossie wheels soon!

Re: Rear Engined Fiesta mk3
Quick update:
Car is looking nice and subtle, it will staying like this till the engines go in which i have just finsihed speccing, so its time to start buying parts in twos of everything! 'Sleeper' springs to mind
Blue side strip for the doors and quarter panels going on too.

On the look out for Escort Cossie wheels though, and its going in for a load of welding this week (extra strengthening and sills etc...)
Thinking about a respray but not totally sure though, its fairly clean and id rather put the money into the engines really

How are you planning on attaching the gear linkage?

Re: Rear Engined Fiesta mk3
Yeah done a fair bit, a XR2i engine is now mounted, the throttle cable/brakes/fuel pump/wiring is all pretty much done. Just waiting to plumb in the hydraulic clutch line and sort out the small issue of the plumbing in of the radiator. Means I have to run 8ft of tubing fron to back as i am keeping the rad in the front. Then sort a quick exhuast. When this is done the car will be ready to drive
Gear linkage was already done and works perfectly i.e. Gets all gears easily etc... So thats one thing out the way.
Going to converting it turbo soon enough.
Also made a nice subtle engine cover too.
Swapped the door over too -NIGHTMARE of a job lol

Looks good mate. You work very quickly :O was this already a work in progress that you took over?
Just wondering would you need some sort of uprated water pump electronic one or something to cope with the extra long piping?

The photoshoot for Performance Ford was actaully outside Halfords though you'd never notice. Out this month too i beleive!
Craig - course i will mate, not that far from being roadworthy really. Ill have to take you out in the XR2 soo, give you a taste of the ZT. Saying that its getting remapped in March to 23psi at Motorsport Developments in blackpool Should be come back pushing 300 bhp or so. Should be interesting lol

Lol I think its taking too long! I bought the car as you see it in the top pics.
Ive spoken to other people with rear engined cars and it appears everyone uses standard water pumps. Dont want to go too mad on the set up as it will all be coming out again when I put the other enigne in. Considering running the pipes inside the car now to free up the space for the exhuast for when the front engine goes in.
