IMPORTANT: Rules for buying and selling

Postby AdrianFRST on Wed Dec 11, 2002 9:09 pm

IMPORTANT!

Never agree to buy from a seller who's only contact is through private messages. IP addresses are not logged this way and the user may be untraceable.

Always get a postal address rather than do an online transfer. If the seller is genuine they should have no problem with this.

Beware of users who approach you after seeing your "wanted" posts and offer you exactly what you are after for suspiciously low prices. If something appears too good to be true it usually is!

Naturally it's up to the seller to decide who they sell too but it's a generally accepted rule on message boards that the first person to reply to a post is first in line to buy.

If you're interested in an item, post on the thread. Emailing or PMing the seller doesn't publicly display your interest and can lead to confusion. If you wish to make a private offer or suchlike then do so, but also post on the topic "you have pm" or similar.

Don't put "offers" when selling an item. This only wastes time when people offer an amount that is too low. If you don't know how much an item is worth, take a little time to find out the going rate.

When an item has sold please update the post to say so. It's a waste of both parties times to converse only to discover the item is no longer available.

If you have an item that is in demand and are taking bids consider using http://www.ebay.co.uk, it doesn't cost much to sell, is free to buyers and ensures a smooth auction free from dispute.

If your item is nothing whatsoever to do with Fiestas or cars in general, myself or moderators reserve the right to delete it if we feel that it's not relevant to the site or is profit making (pirate software etc).

If your profile has a witty comment instead of your location, make it clear in the post where you are from.

Sticky threads only available to paying advertisers or personal friends of mine (webmasters perogative ;))

[temporarily demoted to sticky as a mark of respect for Rob - Proj]

i agree with ya ade.
sellers intersted in parts should post a message on the thread or it doesent count. even if they pm them firtst they need to.

theres been far to many arguemnts over people sayin ive firts dibs then sum1else sayin they have pm'ed em a few mins b4.

glad some sort of rules have been sorted. we just need some for a 'reasonalbe delivery time' from recipt/clearence of money. been messed around in the past with people that take money but dont send parts for months. :x :-?

Steve,

You should get in touch with me and provide as much detail as you can.

Normally private sales become delayed due to posting problems which are beyond the control of either party but sometimes it all goes a bit Pete Tong (do a search for posts by Kyle8565 to see an example).

Site admin and myself will do our best to sort out any problems which come up.

Is somebody puts an item up for sale and then get more offers for it than expected are they allowed to then refuse to sell at its asking price even if you are the first bidder and first to confirm a pm to them in the post,do they reserve the right to hold out for more money on THIS board,is this within the rules on here???

I think that it would be OK.
The site cannot make them seel it after all, even if they said they would at the lower price.

Afaik, posting an item for sale is not an offer of sale; it's just an invitation to treat (i.e. an invitation for potential buyers to make offers) and as such does not form a contract.

If you're open and honest about the sale process and don't tell porkies you shouldn't have any problems :)

If there's a list of several items for sale it would be helpful if people could say "PM sent about ....." rather than just "PM sent". Otherwise still noone actually knows how many people are after item x and disappointment ensues when someone who thought they got there first finds they actually didn't. :)

And if people decide that there gonna sell a load of stuff, everything should be in one post rather than the forum filling up with 10 posts by XMEMBER selling things individually.

1) there should be a rule that you have to have 100+ posts (non spam) to be allowed to sell anything

2) if the seller has sold his product / products then the topic should be re-named to "Sold!"

3) If the seller is selling more than one item then they should all be in the same topic / post

4) Again if selling more than one item, when an item is sold then the seller should update his list

5) No I am thinking about selling this... do you want it, if i sell it topics.

6) No "wanted" posts in the for sale section.

7) When selling you should state if you dont want to post an item.

Not really, plenty of genuine people register because it's a good way to sell things.

2) if the seller has sold his product / products then the topic should be re-named to "Sold!"

Definately - see my original post

3) If the seller is selling more than one item then they should all be in the same topic / post

Not always possible - if the seller has a large number of items they may get overlooked by potential buyers if the thread title is just "Fiesta parts" or suchlike.

4) Again if selling more than one item, when an item is sold then the seller should update his list

5) No I am thinking about selling this... do you want it, if i sell it topics.

Agreed - a total waste of time and space.

6) No "wanted" posts in the for sale section.

Ditto.

7) When selling you should state if you dont want to post an item.

Yep, although there's really no excuse unless it's absolutely massive or otherwise impossible to post. A little bit of effort to help others out is what makes communities work.

Please describe your item for sale as correct as possible. Buy something from the market about the approach of other members do not. If you items for sale, then private message them to know every post sale items for you, you are going to bother most members. We will see your items, there is no need to "advertise them any more than that." Place payment and shipping information in your post. As fair as possible with shipping and handling. Buyer beware. You are responsible for your own purchases. We do not screen members, and what can not verify that it is being sold is considered to be blooming if. Only buy from those who have a good reputation. Post integrity and be fair in their dealings with others. We buyers with a seller to post feedback about a transaction will allow. To a point, it's good or bad reaction with other members based on their behavior can be. We handle your payment transaction is not any for sale. You to determine if the vendor requests as you can pay for an item is responsible for. We transactions that do not work out for whatever reason will not be held responsible for. We only post items to people, to force you to buy them are not allowed.
