The History or AndyBlackXR2i and AndyBlackFRST's cars
AS this has been done a few times already.. I thought I should have a go.
I Bought myself a nice clean Black XR2i off my friend. Already lowered and had the alloys fitted.
After 6 months of owning it, I decided it was time for a slight change of look..
Fitted myself some blue lights all round, and dropped off at a bodyshop for smooth boot, smooted bonnet, and my cossie front sprayed up.
Then to my joy 14 days later someone decided they liked the front of the car too...
The car was promptly wrote off and given the use of a curtosy car for 3.5 months.. I managed to take the mileage from 200 up to 8,500 in this time running around picking bits up and looking for another car in time for FITP 2002.
In my travels I collected a few bits.
New rear bumper
Some Sideskirts that won't fit lol
new front cossie bumper
And some lights to go with it..
In the meantime i'd got find myself 2 xr2i's..
I took off the bonnet and sent that to the bodyshop along with the bumpers.. Knowing I had the smooth boot already, I had plans for a very nice XR2i.
After getting his back, I had 2 weeks to build the car back up before FITP 2002.
A quick swap of boot, indicators, suspension and wheels made it look like this.
Stripped out ready for my recaro interior
Got to the end of the first week and then removed the arch to discover this..
Plans were put on hold and unsure whether to buy a mint 2i or a frst, I had to keep my eyes open.
Whilst thinking about that, I had my wrote off 2i to break.
As the show was getting closer, I thought I had no car to take until I found myself a FRST, which I collected on the Thursday evening - 3 days before the show
End of Part1

Your street looks exactly like downtown LA lol. The engine crane shot is particularly american-sunsetty.
Nice pics btw.

Part 2
The bonnet was soo nice when I picked it up.. all smoothed, double skinned and could not fault it one bit
But as I had it planned for a 2i and not the fRST, I was missing the vents
But I had plans...
With the help of Bridger, we got the bumpers, boot and a few little bits sorted out on the Saturday before the FITP 2002... as well as replacing the front hub at 5:30 that day after it collapsed.
The day was good though, the first showing of my car.
Cleaned engine too
I got a few engine bits done to the car shortly after the show. Cam, vernier etc etc...
After a few shows, I started to have a problem with the engine... little did I know this was the major fault with my car.
Off it went to get a nice low comp bottom end, Ported and polished head and the t3 fitted... Rushing around to get the car ready for the FT RR day at Interpro.. Unfortunately I forgot the escort manifuld gasket so ran on T2.
And on the rollers
As you can see, was working on my new arches as well at the time..
I'd got my bonnet Louvred in the meantime but had to get it all sprayed up again.. Looked soo nice on the car. Smooth and very subtle
Also had tidied up the skirts and sprayed up a bit..
.
All was going well for that car until after approx 4000 miles, I managed to drop a valve... So off the car went to get another new engine...
12 Months later...

Good post mate - interesting to see these pics as I haven't seen alot of them before!
What's going on in this pic though?
Are you acting grumpy or taking a dump in the driver's seat?

Part 3
..... 12 months later I got the car back..
I Was like a big kid driving it back...
My nice T3 and ally rad
Had soo many things planned for the car... Had bought some AP 4pots which to date are still sat in my garage.
I'd bought some 17" League tantrums for the car, but due to money problems they had to go, so had to sit on 15's for a while.
Whilst car was away, I'd planned my cooling setup for the little air filter that was fitted. I'd meshed an indicator lense and moved the indicators to the front bumper.
Didn't look too bad.. subtle and effective
While fitting the indicator, I thought it was time to get my 17's sortedout.. So a trip to Elm_US/Robs and 2 days we managed to sort out the arches to allow the 17's to fit.
The Avo's were already fitted so all I needed now were some 17's.
A week later I had aquired myself a set of 17" Voodoo's...
knowing they looked gorgeous in 15's on a fez (Mixons) I had to do it.
With the car now at a standard I was happy with, well apart from the smoked rear lights I had to rush around to collect the night before, it was time to join the Essex RS group at the Surrey RS day.
Things were going good, so decided that I would join the mad lot at the Essex RS day..
Not Sure what he's trying to steal in this one though... lol
On the way to the show I could hear some odd noises from the engine.. later that day I found out what it was... So the car once again came off the road
And what now?
I picked up an Engine with TonyBlackFRST from a guy in Croydon and have changed gaskets etc...
Engine is now in car awaiting a few little bits to be done and then I will start again.
Hope you've enjoyed your history lesson, you may leave now

funny that, hated the look of the car when on the 15s, didnt agree with me, the kit didnt look right and dwarfed teh wheels, nothing seemed to fit..........
but then add the 17s, laguna splitter and smoked rears and everything seemed to slot into place, was very impressed with the change
keep it up andy

Robin.. You and your special little presents lol... Not sure as have no car at present so will have to see..
Rawli,
The 15's worked OK with the cossie front, but as soon as ther ear was on and skirts fitted I knew it was time to go for 17's..
Wasn't sure about the smoked rears as I didn't want the back to be too plain and too black. So bought these on instinct before Surery RS day and loved them as soon as they were fitted.
FordUnit - Thanks mate.. Just one of my many custom bits

The skirts would fit if you'd of removed the old ones first
IMO you need a new front plate, which i think you have anyway, and the grille needs cutting out or something. Theres just too much going on up front IMO.
Rear looks lovley though
Nice story also, apart from the engine probs!

What do you mean if I removed the old ones first?
The skirts are Mk4/5 Tourismo skirts and have a nasty kick out at the front.
