My Fiesta RS Turbo project *Updated 28/04/05*
This is my fiesta turbo so far.
Bought it last year, was completely standard (pics to follow) but in need of some TLC.
The day after i got it back to mine the interior was stripped out and the engine removed with a bit of help from streetdragster to leave a rolling shell.
First stop was the bodyshop for removal of any little dinks, smooth bonnet, fuel cap repair panel, new rear arches, de locking, rear wiper was removed and a new roof skin was fitted as there was rust around the sunroof.
Some work in progress pics (not the best as i had to leave a disposable camera there so i go tsome pics)........
Found soem rot around one of the seat mounting points so had to weld a small panel in........
I've not got any decent pics of the finished article yet, I only got the shell back a couple of days before xmas so it was straight on some axle stands ready to be rebuilt over the xmas holidays while I was off work but waiting on parts and too much alcohol consumption has hindered progress and its still not back on the ground yet!
Engine rebuild/installation etc. pics to follow...........

excellent work mate. more people should restore there rst rather than breaking for spares. once you have sorted the rust and painted they look superb.
keep it up mate.
I had a similar process last year except for the roof, just generally tydying up under the bodykit and fuel cap. Well happy with the result.
I'm the same as you though waiting on parts etc.

Great stuff - yet another merc. grey FRST that's been restored!
I had alot of rust sorted out on mine last year along with a respray all over (did some smoothing too).
You should definitely try and come along to the shows this year - 2004 was a bit disappointing for FRSTs but 2005 looks positively full of them
Keep up the good work mate,
Andy

Cheers for the comments
Thought the roof was a good idea, could have grinded the rust out and filled it but wouldnt have lasted long or lead filled it but the rust would only have crept underneath and come out further forward. New roof panel was the best option and didnt turn out too expensive either as it would have cost me to get it filled and it needed spraying either way. Was a bit of a fcuker finding one though!
Waiting on parts is a git, main one im waiting on is suspension at the moment.
Will definitley be at some shows this year, only went to fitp last year but didn't have the car at the time. Was driving something french not liked by many fiesta owners!!!

ith a bit of help from streetdragster to leave a rolling shell.
A bit!!! I'd say alot!!!
Good job mate, glad you've got the pics up to show everyone, it really is an amazing transformation from when it was collected. Managed to get it for a good price though as we spotted most of the major problems when buying it and haggled using them.
Car is having a nice new, freshly rebuilt engine, it will be a breath of fresh air for that shell which has just been driven since day one!!
ZVH to follow later if Chris manages to keep it on the road long enough
Keep the pics following mate

Well this was the engine bay before it went into the bodyshop........
A full rebuild then commenced in the girlfriend's garage. Was pretty gradual over 6 months as I hadn't sold my previous car so told the guy doing the bodywork I was in no rush to get the shell back (until xmas when i sold the saxo).
Was mainly done with the help of streetdragster who'd had plenty of CVH experience and a few other mates if we got stuck with anything or needed a hand.
Basically the engine was stripped down, a new set of piston rings were fitted. New sump gasket, head gasket, throttle body gasket etc etc were used, new rod bolts and head bolts.
The head was rebuilt before going back on the block with a Kent cam, new valve stem oil seals and new lifters etc.
Also fitted a cossie fan switch, Baileys breather and a few other bits and bobs
The rocker cover was also sprayed Imperial Blue.
Not got many pics of the actual rebuild but have plenty of installation pics..........
Engine bay ready to accept engine......
New universal steering joing while the engine was out........
Also fitted new steering rack gaiters and CV boots (fun fun fun!)
Engine and box........
Some heavy duty chains..........
Engine ready to go in on the oldest but most heavy duty crane ever after Matt's crane was locked in a mates garage who had decided to be on holiday when we needed it!!!)........
Engine in and on its mounts in about half an hour (once we realised the crane had been leaking fluid and just needed a top up so it would go higher).........
More pics to follow..............

Cheers pal. Just a few subtle bits.
Had the bonnet swage and badge smoothed, doors have been delocked, and the tailgate has had the lock and wiper removed.
And some small black RS badges under the smoked side repeaters.
Also got a black ford badge to go back on the boot, and need to get hold of a black version of the Fiesta RS Turbo boot sticker.
Only other styling mod I want to do is the back lights, still not 100% on what to do yet though. Was thinking full smoked but not sure if i'm that keen or not. Most likely goign to be a set like the RS Accessory lights but with the reverse part also red, made froma set of clears and tint spray.

Get the german lights from ebay and tint the reverse like me.
Have you not smoothed the boot lines to match the front?

Now here comes the biggest bodge.
My GRS cooler was at a local welders having some new mounting tabs welded on after they had snapped off, and my radiator has recently been recored (after the actuator put a nice hole in it when we took the engine out
) but with a 2i width core meaning the standard intercooler wouldn't fit in the usual place........
SO i was desperate to start the engine and check everything was ok so we bodged the old intercooler in to make sure she started ok............
Good to say she started up fine (after i put some fuel in!) and idled perfectly so I was delighted. Although a fair bit of smoke confirmed my fears the turbo was fecked

Interesting bodge - I ran mine to check the exhaust manifold gasket was sealing properly but hooked up the air-filter straight to the charge carrier!
Will be nice to have it all plumbed in properly though eh?
Cheers,
Andy

Suspension is now on, wasn't too bad, hardest bit was getting the 19mm bolt at the bottom of the rear struts undone but managed with a big persuader bar in the end!
Also fitted these bad boys, ST170 calipers and discs, cheers to Jay at XFactor for provising the calipers, discs were from Ford.
Compared to standard discs........
Got all of the fun of draining the system to replace the fluid then bleeding it all up this weekend then hopefully ti should be back on its own 4 wheels and rolling soon. Just need to sort some small spacers for the wheels though, although I have trial fitted them quickly, looks like im gonna need 3-5mm spacers at the front and around 7mm at the rear.
And a bit of work in progress, smoothed off the old clock housing and re-cut out to fit Nomad ACT gauge, just needs painting black now.....

Wow!
Looks absolutely great mate - love the wheels, love the brakes, love the suspension. Those 3 things will make the car such a hoot to drive - enjoy!
I'd recommend a strut brace next
Cheers,
Andy

Cheers Andy
Wheels are bloody light as well.
Suspensions lowered around 40mm at the moment I think, will need some fine tuning when its got weight on wheels though.
Had a look at strut braces recently and seen you can get front and back, not a priority at the moment but probably an upgrade in the future. just want to get it back on the ground ASAP. Then I can see what the wheels look like properly at the correct ride height. Then check up on spacer dimensions to make sure and get them ordered along with some heat wrap for the exhaust manifold as now ive gone T25 the pipe from the compressor housing is shorter so the silicone bend is too close to the manifold for my liking so i want to get both wrapped for protection.
Cheers

Front strutbrace made a huge difference when I put it on mine and they're only cheap as well so worth doing IMO. Tightens everything up nicely

CRF :Nice one, definitley on the wanted list but spent a lot of money recently!so holding off the spending to priority stuff for the moment like paying for an MOT etc....
Cool - yeah, I've been in that situation many times mate!
I'm finally at the end of the tunnel with my turbo, it should be off for mapping next week or the week after
