Something special....
Among many other things today (the Escort Cosworth - mmmmm), I popped into Pumabuild, having found out its 2mins away from my house. Started chattin to one of the guys there, gave me a full guided tour of the place
Top notch! Absolutely superb! Great people, and know what they are doing!
On the forecourt, there were about 7 Puma's, a Focus RS, Fiesta ZS, a mk2 Fiesta with 187 bhp (one of the guy who works there owns it!), and in the workshop another couple of Puma's. Plus a Ka which was havin work done on it - was on a mag cover a few months back (red one, full bodykit, WAS a 1.3, but gettin new engine in it!)
But the thing that caught my attention when I was chatting, was he said they had some 1 coming down today from Edinborough with a Fiesta, and this person wants Pumabuild to put a Focus RS engine in!
Not sure what Fiesta, but should be quite special!

The Focus RS engine isn't all that. It's a Series 3 2.0 Zetec with a small-ish turbo and a chargecooler.
Nothing fancy and inferior in spec to the Zetec turbos of Duncan, Moondust, Paul R etc which have bigger turbos, better intercoolers etc.
You can build a much better engine that it would cost to buy a FRS unit.
This Fiesta won't be that special, just expensive and over-hyped.

Naaah, I still think it will be something special!
May well not exactly be a powerhouse of an engine, but it will be unique and good to see people trying new things! i just thought it was an interesting piece of information too, in a community of Fiesta lovers, that something different is being tried!

Is that all the Duratec engine is? I thought it was quite a bit different as it uses timing chain or is that just on the later Mondeo's?
Cheers,

It's branded Duratec but it's a Zetec.
Ford marketing confusion, like the Zetec Mondeos that are actually Diesels.

Yeah as Ade said, there are better engines in mk3's than the Focus RS, and have been around for a few years now!

I guess he'll be able to say he's got an RS engine, but seriously, that'll cost him a fortune, he could probably buy two 200bhp+ Zetec Turbo engines for the price they'll charge. Will still be fun though

While I'm certain that Ade is quite capable of defending himself, I think it's fair to point out that he only ever gives fair and impartial advice; it's not Ade's style to insult someone.
I've seen some of the thread you and Ade had about your FRS engine and I don't see him actually insulting you anywhere - as far as I can tell he offered a personal opinion, which I think is the whole point of message boards like this and UKFN, isn't it?
Best of luck with the conversion of course, but don't take it personally when people try to offer you an alternative opinion
Best regards,
Munk

simhopper :didnt mean to offend but hes quick to say that the rs lump isnt worht the cash 2k for 212bhp is good going
If you are getting a Focus RS lump, gearbox, management and the installation for 2k then you've done well. I'd say that's a good price.

any conversion for the mk6 is going to be expensive as no one as far as im aware has done one yet
adrian had told me that fiestafrenzy had done one whether that is true i never checked

In that case you've bagged a bargain! Nice one!
Labour is labour, you'd need to pay that whoever built it so it's not really relevent. The prices you first mentioned were outrageous but you can't argue with 2k.
Make sure you post the pics when you get it back!

Simhopper thats a good idea for the focus engine. Are they suppling and fitting the whole engine? Although the standard bhp is only about 212 it has at least 300nm of torque which would make it shift and it wouldn't have to run a silly amount of psi to get good increases. Let us know how it goes
