Escort GTi Spacers? ***HeLp***

Problem or technical question?

Escort GTi Spacers? ***HeLp***

Postby MIK3Y on Sun Nov 02, 2003 10:00 pm

What spacer size should i be using to keep the off-set correct, id like to know 4 certain because i have a negetive camber problem which seems to be a LOT worse than others.

WHAT SPACERS DO OTHER PEOPLE WITH ESCORT GTI ALLOYS USE ON A FRST or Mk3 Fiesta???

It is lowered 35mil and i currently use 5mm spacers with my Escort GTi alloys. Camber looks quite negetive at the back but this photo shows what the front is like. I was told the FRST alloys are 35off-set and the Escort GTi alloys r 40off-set so 5 mill spacers will correct this.

Looks like this: /---\ PLS HELP

Well i will get some adjustable arms when i get round to it as i know u will get negetive camber on a lowered FRST it's just that mine seem to hav an extreme angle as u can tell.

Jus wanna know the spacers arn't part of the the problem. :-? Thanx

spacers on the wheels shouldnt really induce camber unless youre talking several centimetres.

FRST bottom arms are a tad longer, pushing the wheels out at the bottom. lower the car and this gets worse, athought yours do look worse than most ive seen!

I was woundering that but thought the adjustable arms would be better to avoid problems with the steering rack, front track, etc with the XR2i arms.
What do u reckon?

Has no1 got or had this problem??? :-?

Do the 195/50 tyres make the problem worse?

I can tell even the back has negetive camber just by looking at it.

Any1 help? I know a few people use Escort GTi wheels, where am i going wrong? CheeRS.

MIK3Y :Do the 195/50 tyres make the problem worse?

Should make no difference to camber.

MIK3Y :I can tell even the back has negetive camber just by looking at it.

How's that then?

MIK3Y :Any1 help? I know a few people use Escort GTi wheels, where am i going wrong? CheeRS.

GTi rims are 41mm offset and fezzies are 35 or 38mm, IIRC. So you only want 3 to 6mm spacers if any. I had them on without any spacers, no problems.

Camber on mine came out at 1 deg after lowering by about 60mm (2i lower arms).

As Excursion said get some 2i arms on, or get those adjustables from FiestaFrenzy...

I can tell by looking that the rear wheels that the bottom comes out further than the top.

I have been told by 1 person that they use 5mil spacers with these wheels and don't hav as much trouble as me, ill get the arms and see if the back doesn't wear through tyres too quickly.

Can some1 with these wheels pls tell me what spacers and suspension arms you use?

Plus how long (miles) ur tyres hav lasted and if ur negative camber is as bad as mine?

HELP Meeeeeee PLS. :-?

I was gonna get adjustable arms but maybe the spacers r the problem, wanna sort this out b4 i get new 195/45/15 tyres as opposed to 195/50/15. Thanx

I've just put my Gti alloys on and got new Yoko 195/45s this week. I used 3mm at the front and nothing at the back. it's only been a couple of days but no probs yet. I've just been given some 5mm spacers by DeanoW (cheers mate!) so I might try these all round now.

Frankly i don't see what the relationship would be between the small difference in offset and the camber issue. seems unrelated to me.

I'm hoping to use bigger spacers to push the wheels further outward away from the car. compared to my old steel wheels the Gti alloys seem to sit about an inch closer to the car and look poo! it's only a minor issue but i was a bit suprised!

oh, and thanx for the rims nige
my other signature's a porsche.

Maybe the Escort alloys stick out more than standard FRST 1s and this exagarates the negetive camber when u have lowered ur FRST or is that what offset measures? :-?

Maybe adjustable arms are the only way to solve it but im sure people with these wheels and Ford arms don't have a big a problem as i do. :-?
