To most people it does seem and probably is fine. However when you spend as much time as I do having to fix it, you start to realise it's not. It the main it is OK, but there are weird issues that present themselves time and time again throughout the versions. Plus the antiquated registry method of storing the various settings is way to vulnerable to corruption.

That's not to say Mac OS X is perfect. Safari hangs sometimes and for about 2 months I was battling a stalling issue with my hard drive which they've now finally patched (although in fairness I did install a third party drive myself, so it's not technically supported). But at least it always had the same problems. With my Windows machine I can shut it down at night then the next day it won't start up.

Then there's the time I had to rebuild my HTPC because Windows Update locked it into a continual reboot cycle...

What some of you don't seem to realise that Windows 7 is a HUGE improvement over anything they've done before.

I won't lie, I like OS X, while it isn't as functional as Windows, or as compatible. What I don't like, is to legally get it you have to buy a grands worth of laptop/PC, which I find absolutely ridiculous for something that is made out of standard PC components that can be bought for less than £300. I have used a machine that cost me £300 two years ago and it runs OSX better than the Mac Mini....

Common outdated misconception. Mac's are not as expensive as they used to be. The basic MacBook is £800, the cheapest Mac Mini desktop is £500 (that doesn't include a keyboard, mouse or screen, but you don't have to buy Mac ones). For their spec that's not far from the equivalent Windows system.

Windows 7 isn't a "huge improvement", that's advertising blurb, in reality it's just a refinement of Vista. The 7 is just a name for marketing, its internal build is 6.1 (Vista was 6.0). That said XP (5.1) was a refinement of 2000 (5.0) so maybe it'll be OK... time will tell.

Been using windows 7 at work, not found anything that doesn't work yet and we use shed loads of different systems and applications.

I know a few mates have had issues with gaming and punkbuster but thats only issue i've heard.

I'm still seeing some issues I had with Vista. It might be down to drivers, although there does still seem to be an issue with Energy Star 4 support which seems odd since it's been out since 2007.

That said the issue I have at work is graphical and happens with both the ATI and MS drivers, as it did in Vista.

I use Windows 7 to and got to admitt, although it's a bit on the pricey side, it's very good!!

When I originally installed Vista, it threw up a lot of compatibility problems with stuff I use which annoyed me! even though most drivers were available but when I installed 7, it picked everything up straight away and had no problems at all!

That's because the NT core is a revision of the same one as Vista. Whereas most XP drivers didn't work in Vista, most Vista drivers either work in 7 or just needed a minor update/resigning/etc.

For example, there's no ATI driver for my old FireGL graphics card, but there is a Vista one. Few minutes editing the .inf file and it installs in 7.

But yes, it's generally better than Vista stability and performance wise. I've put it on my work's Vaio which came with Vista and it's much slicker on 7.
