baxtered Garages... At least I went... without car.

Postby Tweek on Fri May 12, 2006 6:12 pm

[update]
Right this is how it stands. I have a leaky sump but want to take the car to FITP. I know it's just a 'small' leak but I have been warned that the sump gasket could give way and spill oil everywhere.

So then, do I take it and check it every so often. Or sit at home fuming and cursing the garage but save the engine? Tricky situation!

====================================================================

[original post]
Took my car to the garage to have the sump dropped to have an oil pickup cleaned out and such, cost me far too much because I wanted it done properly.

Driving home it sounded like a 1.1HCS, parked on the drive to come out 10 minutes later to find a great big fudgekin puddle of oil underneath.

Phoned them and they said "ah well we can't do much about it until Monday now." Up until now this garage has never let me down but now they've f**cked up my sump, made my engine sound terrible and left me with an oil leak 2 days before FITP leaving me stranded. Far from happy. Rant over
:x :x  :x :x

I don't mind driving up instead. But I guess you wanted to take your car instead of my beast.

And I don't mind coming over tomorrow aswell and helping you try to fix it. It might be a bit hard though. Pm if you need a hand. I want a lift! :(

Risky

Postby Tweek on Sat May 13, 2006 12:17 pm

Here's a pic of the oil leakage overnight, the dipstick is still reading 'MAX' so do I risk it taking a 1l oil can with me and hope it'll get me there and back? I have to wait until Monday before they can fix it.

Went into the garage earlier the boss was surprisingly away for the weekend. 2 of the lads took the bullet though and ended up a bit shaken, red faced and nervous so we'll have to see what Monday brings, sadly FITP is the day before then

Simple. Just get down to the shops and buy a gallon of engine oil, and all will be fine, get it sorted afterwards. You shouldn't have any problems with that level of oil leakage for a short time :)

Risk it! Thats not that much tbh over a 8hr peroid (Asuming) just bring a top up bottle and perhaps something to catch the drips in for when your parked on the stand so not to soil the soil

yeah I'll bring the bowl with me, then when i go back to the garage i'll ask them for a refund on it

I only have 1 litre left in the oil can though. Hope that's enough!

Also bear in mind there's a long bit in the bowl recess across the top/back

Nah you'll be fine dude. If you had oil that completely covered the bottom of the bowl it would be an idea not to take it, but that is very minimal oil leakage for a Ford engine :)

You will loose oil at a quicker rate when the temperature causes the vicosity to rise and the the pressure increase.

Just been warned by a neighbour that the oil pressure could cause the gasket to blow and spill oil everywhere :-? :-? :-?

flemming :You will loose oil at a quicker rate when the temperature causes the vicosity to rise and the the pressure increase.
I let the engine run this morning up until the fan kicked in to get some temperature in and it dripped out a similar quantity to the bowl contents...

Mate i wouldn't worry about that, chances are your not going to need to even top up a great deal anyway as it seems minimal.

Very much doubt your going to blow the gasket as it's already f**cked anyway so it'll more than likely just drop out.

Oil pressure drops when its up to temp anyway so if pressure was an issue then you'd alreadly have found it out.

if it sounds like a hcs and isnt then no fudgekin way would i drive it till it got sorted. you may not have a lot of oil pressure up the top end of the engine :o anyone for cam seizure :o maybe im being daft here but if you drove it knowing it was pissing out oil then the garage are going to tell you to sling your hook when you ask them for a new engine

A thinner oil and worn cam/tappets is apparently causing the rattly engine (117k miles on them), They've had the oil pickup cleaned out too, just got a leaky sump to contend with.

The garage KNEW I needed it for a show this weekend before they cocked it up so they'll know if it doesn't make it there then I'll shoot the baxtered.

I rekon if you go to FITP and more engine damage occurs, blame the garage for it and get them to sort it all. :)

Just wondering cos some people might know what it's like and how much I could do. If people know the CVH and rekon it'll hold then I can risk it. If the thumbs go down and people think it's a time bomb then I won't

XRMike :I rekon if you go to FITP and more engine damage occurs, blame the garage for it and get them to sort it all. :)

then be prepared to be told to fook off  considering he's told the garage its leaking oil, what would you do if he rang back and said the engines now siezed up? youd ask him why was he driving it knowing that it was leaking oil. thats his decision to want to drive it knowing it had a fault and the consiquenses fall on you own shoulders. how can a garage cover stupidity??

BUT, end of the day what the garage should have done was have it back immediatly and sort it out. no questions. now, what the boss should do is bollock who fitted the gasket as its now "costing" the garage time doing the job again for free.

I limped it 6 miles to our "convoy" (haha) meeting area and the lovely Becks and her fella gave me Adz a lift so didn't work out too badly in the end :)

The plot thickens when the 'mechanic' decided to pass the buck and say he told his boss he was having problems with it but was told to do it anyway. Shall find out tomorrow what's happening with it. I have a nice collection of oil from the weekend where it's been stood!

BUT

my dipstick is still reading MAX, should i be worried?!?!

can't seem to delete the poll either.
